The seller of an item that didn't work agreed to send me a return shipping label, but he never did. So I returned it anyway, two weeks ago.
But I have not heard from him, nor have I received a refund.
What do I do now?
thanks for help

Did you open an actual return or just message the seller ?
The steps for return are here.
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/returns-refunds/return-item-refund?id=4041
If you did open a return and he isn't responding to it, after 3 days you can ask ebay to step in and review it.
Instructions can be found here.
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/default/ask-ebay-to-step-in?id=4701
After you open a case, you should contact eBay and provide them the return tracking, making sure they know its been deliverd.
Do that by using the automated assistant, and typing in 'Agent'

I went to
The first step is "find item in purchases". I did that.
But "request details" and "ask eBay to step in and help" are not visible, and I can find no drop down that reveals those two items.
How do I ask Ebay to step in?
I'm 82 and this is a bit confusing, but so far, I'm lost

Try the last link and contact eBay.
Select the reason you want to contact them, and on left hand of page go to automated assistant.
Try your return there, if doesn't work, type 'Agent' in the chat box, and it will get you a phone call or chat.
Just so you know you can only return within 30 days of delivery via eBay.
Next time never return on your own, you have to open a return request first.
However, you can if all else fails contact the payment institution that you used to pay and file a credit not received case, and give them the return tracking number.

Did you:
Find the item in your Purchase History and click on it?
Was there not a drop down menu for you to choose what you wanted to do?
In that menu, one of the choices is "Return this item". Did you click on that?
Did a menu come up where you had to select the reason? Your reason would have been "not as described" or some similar verbiage. Did you click on that to open a case?
The seller would have been required to either send you a prepaid return label or to reimburse you in advance for the cost of return shipping. There would have been no reason or need to pay the cost of return shipping in this situation.
If you had followed the above procedure, and returned the item, you would have been refunded in full.
Have you read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers?

Is your open request listed here?
Item Picker Case Status Buyer | eBay
If not, then you need to open a case for a refund first. Input the reason and tracking# of the return into the case, wait 3 days and ask eBay to step in.

None of the above suggestions make any sense to me., and I cannot locate the specific items you suggest. The item is on it's way back to seller, and was shipped two weeks ago. But the return status just says "Your item is on its way back to the seller" I know the item should be there by now.
How long should I wait? (four days should be plenty of time, but two weeks ?)

Felix, you say that your seller did not send you a return shipping label @ble_356.
But you returned it anyway, and its way back to the seller.
