how to handle a return for an item that I purchased but seller already refunded

I was a buyer on an item, and it was clear from the ad that there were two items included in the sale but I only received one. The seller eventually refunded the money, but there was no discussion on what I should do with the one item that I received.  He has not paid for return postage and has not specifically asked for the item. Can I assume that I can just keep it?

If they have refunded and you haven’t heard from them then you can keep it. Once seller refunded eBay won’t require you to send it back. Of course you are free to do so but you will have to pay for the label

@trchew

If you wish to return the item you can contact the seller to see if they want the item back.

If the seller wants the item back they can provide a shipping label, or funds for you to ship the item back.

As other posted you are not required to send the item back once refunded by the seller.

Depending upon cost/loss some do not ask to get the item returned.

Often a seller will not want to spend any more to get back an item.   If they wanted it back they would have provided a return label.
