Who pays the refund if eBay held it pending the item to be returned

I accepted a return (even though I stated that I didn't accept returns). The shoes were returned in same condition. Do I refund the money to be buyer and then wait to be reimbursed by eBay? Or, do I wait for eBay to refund the buyer after 2 business days as is stated on line.

You refund the buyer. Not sure what you mean by being reimbursed by Ebay? You wont be reimbursed, you cant have the shoes and the payment for them.

I think that the op was asking if ebay would automatically refund the buyer with the funds were on the hold because of the return.

@texasgems

I believe that you will have to refund and ebay will take the hold off of the funds after that.

The refund comes from you.

When the buyer opened their return request, ebay put your funds on hold pending the return of the shoes and your issuing of the refund. If you don't have the money in your managed payments account, ebay will withdraw it from your bank account.

You do NOT want to wait for ebay to issue the refund. That will cost you a huge ding to your account and you'll also lose the FVF credit you get when you voluntarily issue the refund.

Don't wait definitely initiate the refund. The money eBay has taken from you already that is on hold will then be paid to the buyer. So it won't charge you on top of that money that's already on hold.

By the way as a new seller if you have no returns you are more attractive to scammers. And as you have discovered it doesn't stop people from being able to return items if they claim something is wrong with the item. It's best if you put it on buyer pays returns. Sometimes when you have buyer pays returns they will be honest about the reason and say that they just changed their mind and then they will have to pay the return shipping. If you have no returns they tend to just force the return Anyway by saying that it's not as described. Scammers know that new sellers don't really know how to handle returns and so they tend to Target people that have no returns and are new.

ALL sellers need to read the Money Back Guarantee for buyers, preferably before beginning an eBay selling career here.

That "don't accept returns" stance means nothing at all in the face of the MBG.  That's why it would be important for you to read it.

How would you feel if you bought a widget from me, discovered on receipt that it was damaged so badly as to be unusable, and then discovered that I didn't have to refund because my listing said "no returns".

On eBay, "no returns" does not mean "no refunds".
