you don’t need to talk to eBay. Refund the buyer, and you are done. File an insurance claim with usps if you would like. You’ll get more help from these boards than you will from eBay.

A crushed box is between you and USPS, and has nothing to do with ebay. So even if you could talk to someone, there is nothing they can do.
If you are the buyer, you contact your seller, or file for a return using 'not as described'
If you are the seller, your buyer needs to do the same, or contact USPS for you if you had insurance. They must NOT resend it back to you, that voids any USPS Insurance.
If you had insurance, contact USPS
If you shipped Priority, you have some insurance- contact USPS
If none of the above apply; there's nothing that can be done.

There is nothing here to contact ebay about.

Why do you think you have to involve ebay?
The damage is between you and the shipper YOU chose.
You refund the buyer, claim insurance (you insured right? If you didn't, it's your fault) and wait for the check.
Ebay has nothing to do with a damaged package.

So you sold an item and you shipped it using the US Postal Service, now how is eBay responsible?

There's no reason to contact CS, refund the buyer and file a claim with USPS.

Call USPS and open a claim ( 1-800 2758777), tell your buyer to keep the item, and packing and original packing material, USPS will ask you or your buyer to walk with the damage item to the local post office to provide the evidence of damaged item. I had the same case last month , my buyer trash the original box , USPS declined my claim because of that and I didn't get no refund.
Good luck
