I had purchased an item and once paid for I realized I wanted to return the item before it even shipped out to me. I checked the box to return and get refund the problem is...the item is now saying delivered and that I have to print a packaging slip and send the item back in order to get a full refund meanwhile I don’t have anything to return bc I never received the item! Now it’s showing up as “item unavailable” but it’s still saying that if it’s not returned by “may 11” they will just close my case and I lose my $$$. Now what?

Frankly, you created mess. You shouldn't file a return for something you don't have. You could have asked the seller to cancel, which they may or may not have agreed to do, but otherwise to return depends on the seller's return policy since you just changed your mind.
Now you say the tracking is showing delivered?

My only option that was given to me was to file a return and for what reason. I didn’t get any other options...it’s saying delivered but in my inbox it’s saying estimated arrival may 11th ...I need to verbally speak to someone ...this is utterly annoying when it’s fraud...

This is not fraud, this is an error you made, and the seller has done nothing wrong.
Please read up on the policies for buying on eBay or your time here may be very short

What do you mean the seller did nothing wrong? I’m returning an item I never received and it won’t let me cancel, just return

This is not a return, this is a request to cancel, which you can only request. It's up to the seller to allow it.

By requesting a return, the system assumed you had the item since, as others have stated, you can't return an item before you have it.
So yeah, you're fault as @downunder-61 stated.

But there was no option to cancel the item obviously I would have selected that had that been an option

Why can’t the person just cancel the return on their end and just refund my money back I don’t understand why it’s so difficult and unfair

Judging from your lack of knowledge regarding what happens after you purchase something, forgive me if I don't buy that.
The option to request cancellation is on every purchase...
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/buy-now/cancel-order?id=4004
Since this option is probably NOW no longer available. Contact the seller, explain what happened, and ask them to cancel the sale on their end. Tell them they can even use the option "buyer requested to cancel the sale".

Wow, just...wow.

The option to formally ask a seller to cancel is (I believe) only available for one hour after your purchase. After that, all you can do is email the seller and ask if they would kindly cancel per your request. The return portal is only for returns. You need to actually have the item in order to return it, so the automatic prompts will not work properly without that key part. What was your seller's return policy? I see nothing here that appears to be the seller's fault, and I'm sure, they are scratching their heads trying to figure out how to fix this.

@fern*wood Actually the formal request to cancel after the 1 hour does exist, it's just handled differently and is done differently.
