Shipping question

Question for my coworker

my coworker recently sold some front end suspension parts here on eBay, the package was shipped from Chicago Illinois to a part of Puerto Rico. My friend packaged everything properly and sent it all out with proper labels etc. it’s been about a week or so since he sent them and got contacted today by the buyer who states he only received half of the items that were packaged. He sent my friend pictures of the item and its packaging and the item has 100% been repackaged and now is also missing half of what was in it (front end strings springs etc and only one side arrived). The seller says that’s how he received them but that’s not how they were sent out. How would my friend go about contacting eBay? He has already tried and the only thing he can find on the website says to pretty much accept the refund and once he receives the item back then they will help. That doesn’t seem like a good idea as he will now only receive half of his product back essentially loosing money.

is there a number he can call to try and sort this out? Who would’ve repackaged the item during transit? And if he put the wrong weight on the item and it ended up being different from what he put would the remove items until it meets the weight he said it was? Any help is appreciated

There's no reason to contact Ebay, they wouldn't do anything.

Has the buyer filed an INAD or just contacted your friend?

They should contact the carrier and see if there was a problem with the package.

The parcel would have been packaged by the seller or someone that they designated to do it . eBay doesn't ever handle packages within the US  including PR.  If there are items missing and the package doesn't look like it was damaged your friend should go to their ebay purchase history and open a return because of missing pieces.   They will need to send the package back unless the seller does not want to pay for return shipping and refunds without a return.

@pjcdn2005

'Friend' is the seller, not buyer.

Sorry my reply was if your friend was the buyer, my mistake.

Is your friend is in the US they would have sent the package directly to the buyer.   It shouldn't have been repackaged at all so unless there is evidence that the outside of the packing was damaged and perhaps some things fell out, there is the possibility that the buyer if not being honest.  But contacting ebay won't help. They expect sellers to deal with the problem when a buyer files a not as described return.

Is the buyer asking to return or for a partial refund or ??

This is between the shipper and the seller. Ebay is not involved in the shipping the seller chose to use.
