I bought two new laptop power supplies and both were dead on arrival. I contacted the seller using the eBay "Contact Seller" process within the first 10 days of the 30-day return window, but didn't receive a reply until the window had closed (and only after I sent a follow-up email through eBay). The seller tells me that the window has closed (a correct statement given their delay in replying) and eBay has closed the return based on the same reason.
I obviously have documented proof that my request to return the items was made well within the return window, but I can't seem to find a way to lobby for my case with eBay because the issue has been deemed to be closed.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to try to get this rectified, or am I out of luck?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.

I think you might be out of luck doing anything through eBay, unless the seller is willing to accept the return after the return window has expired.
You should always open a return via the eBay return system before 30 days. (This gets you locked in with eBay's buyer protection). Once the return is officially opened then you can negotiate with the seller.
People might hate me mentioning this, but your payment method might offer you some types of protection. If you show them that you contacted the seller before the 30 days, they might allow for the return to proceed with you paying for shipping to return the item.
Always, Always, Always open a return via eBay panel before 30 days.

If you paid through PayPal, you can contact them. They have 180 days of protection.
So do most credit card companies.
It could be worth contacting whichever method you used to fund the payment. They may offer something.

When a buyer opens a return case the seller has 3 days to issue a return label to the buyer. If the seller doesn’t issue a return label in those 3 days then the buyer can ask eBay to step in to force a refund. Perhaps you missed the opportunity to do that and allowed the seller to string you along.
But all is not lost…if you paid through PayPal you have 180 days from the day of delivery to open a chargeback for not as described. If you paid through your credit card or debit card call the bank they may be able to assist you.

This may seem like a good idea. BUT, you would have to prove that you returned the merchandise. Charge backs are not simple and they can damage your credit. Too many here advise "just" do this or that.
The OP did not follow procedure for getting money back with eBay's more than generous procedures.
By all means, explore other options. Just keep in mind it is not simple.

Not actually true, at least initially.
He has to establish he made a good-faith effort to contact the seller before the return window expired.
This is done by showing screenshots of the listing with its return policy (30 days) and time stamps of communication of messages sent to the seller.
Then once the investigation takes place a request to return may happen with an address provided. Simply provide the tracking information and the refund will typically happen.
I recommend using PayPal (Just get the debit card) as it has the simplest process from what I've seen.

Thank you all for the suggestions - I will pursue the credit card route, and also see if I can appeal to the sellers good nature!
Definitely a lesson learned for me - shame it cost 130 bucks...........
Appreciate the collective wisdom of the community - thank you!

Did you use paypal to pay? If yes, open an item NOT as described case. You will have to pay the return shipping from your pocket. Make sure that the items are packed the same way that you got them. You can retape the package that the seller used. Print the label. Make sure that the tracking # is somewhere on the case. Once it shows delivered, contact Paypal (or follow whatever the prompts tell you.)
Save the credit card route for last. The paypal case should work. The credit card would be the last bite of the apple. In the future, if there is a problem, go directly to ebay and open a case. I'm pretty sure that the seller would have responded promptly.

I'm kicking myself as I have used PayPal exclusively for 99.99% of my eBay transactions, but this time, I opted to use a CC and not PP.
This has just been a comedy of errors for me!
