I sold a large and heavy item and it was sold in a 'vintage' section and I fully described in title/pictures and description what was coming in the lot. The buyer can return after 30 days at their expense. The buyer receives the item and asks where the other parts are...parts I never described/photographed or hinted at etc.
I said the sale is for item A only and they can return the item at their expense, shipping was over $100. The buyer then complains and files an NAD. Bear in mind that he's complaining about an item he 'expected' other parts to come with...NOT described, titled or photographed.
The item is returned and ebay charges me return shipping. I call ebay three times and each time I'm assured that the funds will be returned...they aren't. I was asked to file an appeal in order to have the funds returned to me...the case was closed in the buyers favor . I'm out the $100+ return shipping. Ebay slammed the door in my face.
All I can do is shake my head and wonder why I even bother.

I sold the item at 'auction', now I'm doing a buy-it-now as it were and asking for more. However just like people who offer 'free' shipping I'll already have some profit baked into the sale. I won't be in business long if I sell for less than I buy! 🙂

As I've learned 🙂

I'm not arguing with you, I was arguing with ebay and their inability to take even the most rudimentary steps to protect a seller by looking at communications from a buyer through their own messaging system, thats all. So your advice is to grab your ankles and accept it...great, I'll keep that in mind and I hope you do too.
Its funny that ebay doesn't step in and say..'Hey! Thats not fair we try to make sure this is a safe place to sell'....but they don't. Some sellers have actually offered some suggestions to avoid the situation in the first place which have been helpful, maybe have a read.
You expect me to sell an item for close to a grand ...but let the buyer just keep the item and get a refund? Thats your advice? Thanks but no thanks.

Yep, thats how this one played out. What irks me the most is if ebay took a minute to read the buyers E mails where he starts asking for additional items not described etc the case would have been in my favor but......:-/

Thanks J, I did report the buyer but its kinda like a 'secret' report, unlike when a seller has a negative which is highlighted in red, lingers for a year and like the price of gas is advertised to anyone who drives by 🙂

You are comparing two things that are not the same.
You can report a buyer and a buyer can report a seller. The actions taken by Ebay on either report will not be shared with the member that reported the other member. That would be private account info and Ebay simply does not share that, nor should they.

Here is one for you. It is low cost but still
I sell a crock pot for 40 bucks plus 12.99 shipping.
Buyer opens a case saying Item not Received. I win said case as Tracking shows delivered to their address list. Buyer after losing that case opens another case INAD. But they were emailing me saying that it was never received. Then once I win that case they fil again INAD.
This was also new in box. The buyer puts pictures of another crock pot in the messages.
I call Ebay(have them call me) and do you know what they said.
Just take the return then do a claim with USPS for damaging the item. You will get your money back that way. I told them everything for a second time. They said again. You have to return it. I asked when I get the item and it is not the same item I sold they said. You will be forced to return their money. So you might as well do a claim with USPS.
I was shocked!

No my advice is if they open an item not described case, you do not have any other option but to accept it and pay return shipping if you want the item back. Does not matter how well it was described in the listing, which is what you keep bring up, sucks but that is a moot point once that was opened so eBay is not going to do anything to help you.
One has to wonder how with 12394 feedbacks, you have never had to deal with this before?

Ebay doesn't allow a buyer to file two INADs on the same transaction. Can you give more details as something is missing?

A negative feedback from a buyer is public and available for viewing for a year.
Yes, a buyer/seller can make a secret report on each other but which is more damning? A red letter visible on your account or a 'secret' report that'll never see the light of day or ever be acted upon? Its a feel good exercise...you'll feel better leaving the report but how many of these bad buyers are ever removed? Oh well, more ebay high jinx as per usual 🙂

Yeah, thats an ebay move alright...defraud the post office not us!

I'd say that 99.99 percent of my customers are great, its the odd rogue buyer that drifts in and creates a $hitstorm for me, many of my customers are repeat buyers, they're great and I respect them all.
What got to me in 'this' case is how the buyer intentionally bought an expensive/heavy/bulky and difficult to ship item and then thought that they wanted more out the deal AND EBAY backed them up. I play by the rules, I don't side hustle sales, I don't jam the shipping costs...I want my buyers to come back.
What I didn't mention was I even tried to work with the buyer and looked into getting some parts for the camera free of charge for him from a camera repair guy I know despite describing some camera parts as needing repair...but then he wanted to use this $uper expen$ive company to have the same parts custom made at my expense, nope!
Do I get buyers returning things for any reason, sure. If its an honest mistake on my/their part thats OK, I'm pretty chill and so are they. I'm not gonna get my blood pressure up any higher than it already is over a $4.31 return shipping charge. 🙂 I know I'm repeating myself but ebay aided and abetted this guy to rip me off and thats what stings.

The negative FB is on your FB forever. However it only appears in the recap at the top of your FB page where your percentage is calculated for 12 months.
What? A 'secret" report? What is that? Oh you are talking about Reporting a buyer or Reporting a seller using the form available on the site. Well it isn't secret. Ebay gets it, you assume they do nothing with it because they don't tell you?

I've run into a few of those buyers at times. I just wish we could give them negative FB, not being able to call out a buyer that is fraudulent to warn other sellers is just wrong. I used to read all my bidders FB scores when bidders/ buyers could be called out for wrong doings. Sometimes the FB remarks was quite entertaining.
