Buyer requested return, I authorized it on the same day, paid for a return label. USPS Tracking shows that the label has not even been scanned at the local post office .
What are the odds that eBay will close out this return request because of lack of action on the part of the buyer? Here is the message I see. I've never had a situation like this. Thanks.
The buyer has until Sep 27 to ship the item back. If you choose to refund the buyer now, then the return will close and you shouldn't expect to receive the item.
If the buyer doesn't ship the item back by Sep 27, we may close the return automatically and you will not be required to refund the buyer. "

Do NOT contact them... if they don't ship back in the allotted time, eBay will automatically close the return.

The odds are very good if the buyer doesn't ship the item back. If the case is still open on Sep 28th, contact eBay and ask for the case to be closed in your favor.

If it's a $300 hmmm, there's a chance the buyer didn't use your return lablel, but may have already returned to your area, and is just waiting until the last moment to give eBay that tracking number. If so, you need to be prepared to stop that automatic refund.

I think that "If the buyer doesn't ship the item back by Sep 27, we may close the return automatically and you will not be required to refund the buyer " sounds encouraging. I'd certainly escalate it to eBay when the timeline allows you to, though.
The last Return I had was initiated 28 days after receipt and the buyer didn't ship it until 21 days after immediate approval.

I agree, don't call eBay. Not much good happens when they are brought into a transaction.
I had one last month that closed out on its own the day after the last date for the buyer to return.

They quit doing that a couple years ago.
You have to wait until it times out or they decide to close it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. As promised, the return was closed automatically without my intervention and funds that were held were released shortly thereafter.
This was a fairly expensive transaction and the first sort of snafu I've encountered in more than 22 years on eBay.

Glad it worked out for you! It is a bit unnerving having to wait, but it is worth it

You said you paid for a return shipping label. Was this refunded to you also?

I'm assuming it will be in due course. I will ask.

Turns out that I was never actually charged for the label as it was not used.
The only time you are charged for a return label is if it is scanned at the post office.

Make sure that the bidder is blocked from bidding on your account. I am glad that you got your money.

That’s an interesting observation. Why would I want to do that?
