Return and Refund Issues

I sold a plate originally sold at an art museum.  I measured a plate and put the measurements in the title.  I thought it was a small plate and so I put "SMALL" in the title as well.  The buyer filed a claim with eBay for the item not as described stating that the plate is classified as "Extra Small" according to the original art museum.

I even put the actual measurements in the description too.  The item was returned and eBay took the returning shipping charge out of my bank account.  Since the item was returned, I refunded the money to the buyer, but I felt it was not my fault because I even put actual measurements.  It was a loss for the shipping charge.  What do you think?

Re: Return and Refund Issues

Your point is well taken.  But it doesn't matter what we think.  It's been shown here, by example, that eBay is pretty heavily biased in favor of the buyer.  Once a buyer claims NAD, your best bet is to send the prepaid return label, and then to refund in full upon receipt.

Re: Return and Refund Issues

I got a neutral feedback and a NAD for a Hawaiian shirt that the buyer said was freakishly heavy and dinged me because I didn't note that in the description.  There's really nothing you can do to make some wretches happy.  You just have to suck it up and move on.

I got a negative once because the sweater was not the correct blue shade that the buyer wanted.  Thankfully, I got that one removed when I told customer service it was not fair that my "clairvoyant" powers were not working correctly when I wrote the ad.    That was the last clothing item that I sold on ebay.

You can't please customers sometimes.

Re: Return and Refund Issues

If you put the measurements in they shouldn't be able to use not as described and force you to pay return shipping. They should choose a remorse method and pay for the return shipping. eBay allows buyers to bleep on sellers is the real problem. They could put a stop to that if they wanted to.

You should report the buyer because what about 7 inches can be extra small, small, or too small or not small enough?  Were they disputing it wasn't 7 inches?  eBay might give you a $6 shipping voucher.

Faulty returns and buyers abusing the MBG are not as rare as ebay wants you to believe but you just take your beating and move on to the next fire.

Re: Return and Refund Issues

I think you were in the right. Once you put the measurements on the listing page you are in the clear. I suggest that you call eBay and request your shipping charge refunded.
