On August 7, I sold a pair of NWT Kate Spade earrings.  I had multiple pictures up and they sold within about 3 hours of being listed.  They were delivered to the buyer on August 13. This afternoon, I got a request for a return saying the buyer just didn't like them.  She didn't think the color matched the pictures.  That is untrue.  I am concerned with the fact she has had these for nine days before requesting a return.  I would honestly think that if I didn't like something, I would know when I took it out of the envelope and I would know that I didn't like the color once I saw it.  I would have requested a return within 24 hours if that were the case.  I have a NO return policy especially for things like jewelry that can be returned to you damaged or worn.  Just like the fact if I were selling any type of makeup I wouldn't dare take it back.  I am worried these are damaged but I also fear they have been worn and now I am being asked for a return.  I don't feel this is good hygiene to take them back.  I have never been asked to take something back like this.  I had a chat with ebay today and have the transcript from the conversation.  They told me since it had been 9 days since the item was delivered that it was beyond their return window and I didn't have to give the refund.  I have a 100% feedback rating.  However, I don't think that I should be given a poor rating for someone who kept an item for 9 days that I honestly believe may have worn them for some occasion and then just wanted their money back so they made up the reason of not liking them.  As I said before, I know within an hour or less if I am keeping something.  What would be the appropriate thing to do in this case.  I just feel like I would never be able to sell them again.

Get rid of your no return policy. It si,ply does not work on here. You must honor a return request whatever the reason. Pictures do not always convey the color that the buyer wants. It’s impossible to do that for everyone.

If the buyer filed a remorse return, you can deny the return since you have a no return policy.

Buyer will probably file a claim with their payment source, then you'll be out the earrings, have to refund, plus Ebay will charge you an extra $20.

It is NOT beyond their return window 9 days after the delivery. It is 30 days for a return request. After the 30 days here it can be up to 180 days for the buyer to file a chargeback with their credit card if you will not allow them to return the merch. If you do not allow them to return the merch and they are upset about this they will file a chargeback, and you DO NOT want that to happen. Accept the return, get your item back, sterilize it and sell it again.

Try to get her agreed for a partial refund. If not , better to go for a full refund rather than sending return shipping label. Solve issue before ebay do that on behalf of you to avoid massive defect on your account. All the very best.

That is utter nonsense. You do not know what you are talking about.

 

No refund without return.

I don't understand.  If eBay said that you don't have to accept the return, you didn't get them to cancel the request for you? Even though you have that policy of not accepting certain items back, I don't think you have the option of declining the return request unless eBay intervenes. You don't have to have them send it back, but then you'd have to refund them.

On eBay the buyer has 30 days after they receive the item to return it. So whoever at eBay told you 9 days was wrong.

With PayPal they have 6 months..

If the buyer opened a return because she didn't like them the seller can easily hit decline on the return request.  The buyer could try to appeal to eBay or their funding source to get a refund if they wanted to though. 

 

That said I'd probably take the return even if it is a remorse return case buyer will have to pay shipping back.  If you charged for shipping (wasn't free shipping) then you can also refund minus the origin shipping you charged.  You should be able to easily clean earrings.  I wouldn't be concerned about that being unsanitary. The rep who told it was beyond their return window has no clue what they are talking about though.  If this is a not as described case you have to take a return up to 30 days after delivery.

If a CS rep told you that the buyer could not return them because it was "beyond the return window" they were seriously in error.

Have you not read the Money Back Guarantee? The buyer can open an item not as described case with eBay up to 30 days after receipt.  

If/when this buyer opens an item not as described case, you will be required to send a prepaid return label, then refund upon receipt.

It doesn't matter if you know within an hour or less if you are keeping something.

It's hard to understand why someone with your eBay experience isn't aware of the MBG.  

There are a few other points in your message that I'd like to cover, but don't want to come off as an eBay employee, which happens here occasionally when people don't like the information/advice they are given.

Why would you send a full refund without getting the item back?

At least you won't have to pay for a return label - & if buyer hasn't destroyed them = they can be relisted. Unlike the request I'm receiving where the scammers are ripping me as much as eBay. Don't believe eBay either - I found out recently all they do is lie to you. Earrings can be sterilized. Just be thankful they didn't have not as described. Probably did exactly what the other reply on here said - wore them for the occasion they were attending & no longer needed. Not a safe place to sell anymore!
