Return Label

HI, I recently purchased an item from a seller who does not accept returns but she graciously agreed to accept it back. I assume I need to pay the return shipping. How do I proceed now? She is telling me to send it to her but I thought I needed a return label from either the seller or ebay. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Return Label

It depends on the reason for sending the item back. If it was a not as described item, you need to open a case, Ebay will require the seller to provide you with a return label. If she does not, on the fourth day ask Ebay to step in. But if it was a remorse return, as in, doesnt fit, dont like it, etc., then the buyer is responsible for the return label.

Re: Return Label

Thanks, that's fine with me. I will pay the return postage. But what do I do? Do I just print something off with the seller's address, attach it to the mailing pouch, take it to the post office and send it off? How does she give me a partial refund on my Mastercard?

@erikajane1948

1st things to clarify are.

Why are you returning the item?    Problem, or remorse?

and have you opened a return request, or just messaged the seller?

As a seller I have had returns that did not go through an "eBay" return request process.

Just messaged. Returned. Refunded.

That works with me because I have a moral compass. Some sellers have no moral compass. That needs to be determined prior to ..... "just returning without opening an eBay return".

Refund. The seller would refund via the sale itself. The refund would process through eBay, and go back to the source of payment.

Re: Return Label

Thank you. I did open a refund request because I did not realize you could just message the seller. I just went to the post office and sent the item back. I paid the postage. I don't know how I will get the refund. Not sure if it goes through ebay if done this way. For now, the transaction still says waiting to hear from seller. In any event, thanks for your help.

Re: Return Label

Hopefully you shipped it by a method that provided you with a tracking number.  That is for your own protection.

Re: Return Label

Good information for the OP.  But how does one determine whether a seller, or anyone for that matter, has a "moral compass"?

Re: Return Label

If you purchased your own label and it gets lost on the way back to the seller then you would not get a refund.

If it gets delivered, the seller has 2 days to process your refund.

If the seller doesn't process your refund you can contact eBay and ask them to step in and you provide them the return tracking number and they verified it was delivered and they will typically refund on the spot.

You contact eBay by going to 'Help and Contact' > Select Reason > Chat with automated Assistant > Select item > Once you get an input box type 'Agent' > Select either Phone Call or Chat.

The seller has not accepted the return yet @dqdistribution or any of the other options -- refund no return needed, partial refund offer no return needed, etcetera -- so eBay isn't expecting the buyer to get a refund.

There is no 2-day clock to refund, and there is no Ask eBay to step in. OP jumped the gun.

Re: Return Label

Good point 😊

I guess you really can not determine that before hand.

Re: Return Label

As I read it, per OP reply, a return WAS opened, and accepted

Re: Return Label

Doesn't matter if he jumped gun. If his return reason is covered by eBay mbg or sellers return policy permits return then all eBay needs is 2 days since it was avaliable for pickup for the seller, zip code and tracking match.

Only time it would matter is if the seller has a no return policy and the buyer tried to open a buyer remorse return reason. Else, seller has to accept or eBay will.
