Restocking fee

Has anyone heard of eBay charging a restocking fee of 10%? I am returning a shirt to a seller and he claims that he can’t refund me the full amount do you eBay charging a 10% restocking fee. eBay makes it impossible to contact them so I have to reach out to the community. Thank you

He is lying to you.  I believe that it is against eBay's policy to charge a restocking fee.  Maybe that has changed but we could not charge a restocking fee a few years ago.

Ebay didn't charge a restocking fee, but some sellers did, but Ebay put a stop to that years ago.

Have a great day.

Why are you returning it?

Thank you @kensgiftshop for verifying that for me.

I remembered that eBay stopped sellers from charging restocking fees but with all of the constant changes around here, I wasn't totally sure if the policy didn't change again.  hurryagain_0-1635989186558.gif

Re: Restocking fee

Feel free to tell your seller that eBay forbids sellers from charging a restocking fee.

Mention that you expect to be refunded your total payment.

Yeah mostly, but not entirely.

TRS can deduct from a refund.

It is basically the same mechanism with a different name.

Re: Restocking fee

I just figured I'd hop in here and say Ebay does give sellers the option to add restocking fees. If you're a seller and go to your business policies where it lets you set up policies for shipping, returns and all of that you can find it. Under the return policies it gives you an options to set a restocking fee. So it is something Ebay is OK with and actually has a built in feature for.

You are wrong. Restocking Fees are forbidden and it was announced in the Spring 2018 Update.

Streamlined returns policies

Starting in May 2018, we will streamline our returns policy options. Buyers' expectations are continuously evolving and we strive to deliver a returns experience that is consistent and competitive with the changing marketplace. Our simplified return policy options will help drive a retail-standard returns experience for buyers and may boost your sales. We recommend that you begin changing your returns policies now.

The five return policy options will be:

  • No returns accepted
  • 30-day buyer-paid returns
  • 30-day free returns
  • 60-day buyer-paid returns
  • 60-day free returns

Restocking fees will no longer be a return option.

Re: Restocking fee

Alright I checked and you are correct. For some reason the option is still there and you can select it but it doesn't save and just goes back to no restock fee. Must just be a relic of the past they haven't gotten rid of yet.
