Refunding a cancellation on high priced item via promoted listings

So i sold  a ring for 500$ and the buyer requested a refund almost instantly after, eBay says I owe the buyer 420$ roughly which is correct because after taxes thats what i got paid.

Problem is i used promoted listings and since it was a 500$ ring i racked up a 120$ fee so thats 420-120$, so I only have 300$ in my funds available because eBay charged the promoted listings fee straight out the sale.

When i go to refund it wants to use my debit card to cover the remaining ($120) because again, i only have $300 from the sale.....thats a $420 refund for the buyer but is eBay going to refund me for the $120 promoted listings fee AFTER i refund the buyer and use my bank account to cover the refund?

I most certainly am hesitant to accept this cancellation given it appears I have no choice to click "refund buyer" and use my debit card to pay the remaining fees needed to give buyer full refund. It seems im about to lose money on an item sold and quickly canceled. At least till eBay refunds me the $120 ad promotion fee.... OR am i paranoid for no reason in that ebay will make it right and refund me the promoted listings ad fee AFTER i refund the buyer and close the order?? Btw, Buyer reasoning was they did not mean to buy this item and it was a mistake....

eBay does refund the selling fees. Listing fees they often don't.  Never use the extra cost features when selling.

@zacrho54

You won't get the promoted listing fee back.

If this refund is for the tennis bracelet that you listed as 14K but was really plated, you need to revise the current listing of the relisted item because the item specifics still show as 14K.

You're at risk of the same complaint from your next buyer.

ETA: NM. it's not the tennis bracelet that you're refunding. But you still need to correct that current listing!

If you sold the ring for $500, thats exactly what the buyer will be refunded, not the $420, what you 'got paid'.

Why do you think the buyer will only get a $420 refund when they paid $500?

The difference is refund by ebay for the standard fees that were charged,

Since your buyers payment has yet to clear when you refund it comes out of your payment source, your fvfs are credited and if you use PLS those fees are also credited. I don't know about the other types of promoted listing fees.

When the buyers payment clears it is yours to transfer back to your payment source used to pay for the refund.

If this was a listing with Promoted LIsting Standard you will be credited with the promotional fees later on.

How can I see the ad fees I am being charged for Promoted Listings Standard, and the ad fee credits for returned or canceled items?

Both your ad fees and ad fee credits for returned or canceled transactions appear in your Payments tab or on your eBay invoice.

Promoted Listings Standard fees appear in the transactions section of your Payments tab, netted directly from your total funds, or in the Account Summary section of your invoice. The itemized details (such as item title, sold to, sale price, ad rate, and ad fee) will appear in the transactions section of your Payments tab, or further below on your invoice.

Promoted Listings Standard credits for returned or canceled transactions are reflected in the transactions section of your Payments tab or on your invoice as well, along with the itemized details (such as date, title, item ID, fee type, and amount).

Please note that if you issue a partial refund for an item that sold via Promoted Listings Standard, your Standard ad fee will be credited at the same rate as your partial refund. For example, if you refund a buyer 50% of the item price, you’ll also get a 50% credit on the associated Standard ad fee

They said they 'owe' the buyer $420 so I assume the remainder was in fees and/or taxes which eBay will pay to the buyer.
