Received item that was not as described

I ordered and paid for 80 count Xyzal and received 55 count. I tried contacting the seller but never received a response. Contacted Ebay who conducted their investigation and decided in my favor. They instructed me to send this item back to the seller and when the seller received the item, I would receive a refund. They instructed me to print out the shipping label, which I did. I took this item to the post office and received a tracking number. This item showed as being delivered to the seller within the time allotted by Ebay. Now Ebay is saying they closed this case because I failed to send the item back to the seller. I can't talk to anyone at Ebay. Now I am out the money and the item. Who is right here and what if anything can I do?

Did you actually open a Return, citing a Not As Described reason in the request? If so, the label made available to you should have been tracked properly. If you did open a Return, was there a lengthy time between opening the Case and returning the item?

 

I ask because the buyer always gets a refund in your scenario. What are we missing that eBay seems to see?

I don't know. I followed the instructions from Ebay and I have a print out from the USPS showing this item was returned and received by the seller.  I contacted Ebay and requested a return because the seller was not responding. Ebay sent me a message stating they found in my favor and to return the item using the provided return label. I followed their instructions and now they are closing the case. I can't contact them. There is no way with this stupid system.

Your whole situation sounds wonky. "Ebay sent me a message stating they found in my favor and to return the item using the provided return label" is NOT eBay-speak. They don't 'find in your favor' until the return happens... you don't yet have a case to 'find' for.

 

Let's move backwards... Did you go to the item in your Purchase History and click the big, blue 'Return this item' button to your right? And did you select a Not As Described reason? And did you print your label from there?

Ebay opened a case and I have a case number.  The Case ID #5272642267 was issued by Ebay.  This was sent to me by Ebay on 8/16/21. It stated to send the item back to the seller and I could use the Ebay label or use my own label. I printed out the Ebay label which had all of the seller's return address information. Ebay stated they will issue a refund once tracking details confirm that the item has been delivered to the seller. I have a USPS print out showing this item was delivered to the seller on 8/23/21.

Well, I'll be danged. I don't know what went wrong. I do know that the seller gets (up to) a couple of days to issue the refund, but...

 

Hopefully another poster with experience in this will happen by. Wait for it. Sorry you're going through this.

@66mustangplw. I recommend contacting cs on social media.   If they still won't refund then file another refund request on PayPal using the same tracking number.   Escalate the dispute to paypal after a couple of days.  

 

Or if you didn't use paypal file a chargeback with your bank or credit card since you have tracking that shows it was returned to the seller.  



If you have a North American phone number, you can select the option to have eBay call you.

(If you don't have a +1 phone number, then use the human chat option or social media instead.)

Scroll to the bottom of the screen, click "contact us".   Drill down to the topic you need assistance with.  

When the chat box pops up if live help is needed click "see more" then click "contact an agent". This bypasses the chatbot and you can either chat with or get a call back from a real person.

If you are using a cell phone turn off the spam filter or it may block the call back

2. Or you can also contact customer service by sending a private message on social media. You leave a message and an eBay employee will get back to you as soon as possible. To speed things up you can leave your registered account information in the PRIVATE message: Full name, address, phone number, email address, user ID, and a brief explanation of your problem.
