Problem buyer strikes again in the form of a return

A few weeks back I posted a thread on here about a buyer who ordered two books from me, paid me for the first, but then ghosted me on the 2nd despite immediately accepting my offer for the 2nd book after his purchase.  I repeatedly try to reach out to him over the course of 5 days but he never once responded to any of my requests.  I canceled the sale on the 2nd book and shipped the first.

After holding onto the book for over two weeks, I got a return request from him claiming that the book is unusable due to missing pages with a poor picture of a torn page so it falls under the eBay Money Back Guarantee.  I rarely sell books and each book is reviewed by me to ensure that everything is in place so I can write an accurate description of the book so the buyer knows what they are getting.  He has had several positive feedbacks after my purchase.

I honestly feel like this borrower is trying to pull a fast one.  I don't necessarily agree with his return request, but I am guessing my hands are probably tied in this matter.  Is there any way for me to reject the request based on my dealings with this buyer?

@cam_corners

No. You'll be refunding.

Report the buyer for misusing returns. Call ebay CS and ask them to open the case. While it may seem like, or even actually be an exercise in futility...if this buyer has done this before it will start the clock ticking on their account. eBay will take action if sellers are diligent in following up.

They may even take action in your case and in this instance if this buyer has been abusing others.

Refund the buyer, block them from bidding (both their email AND their username) and move on. I have tons of buyers blocked.... Frivolous return, blocked. Stupid lowball offers, blocked. Repeated stupid questions, blocked (because these are the same people that will order the wrong part and then return it). I ship thousands of parts a year, I might have problems in 1/100. I still make a good living, so I let it roll off (after a few minutes of anger).
