How to get a refund.

I recently bought a pair of batteries from a seller. They turned out to be good, so I asked for a second pair. We negotiated a price, including postage, they set up a special item and I bought it. What I didn't spot was that, although the price was correct, they had selected "Collection" as the postage option. The lot was also flagged as "No Returns".

The batteries arrived and one was faulty - flat when it arrived and wouldn't take a charge. I contacted the seller and they apologised and said they would get a courier to collect the bad one and deliver a good one, as they could get a refund from their supplier for the bad one.

I was away the rest of the week so said we could do the swap the following week.

Logged into Ebay and they had set a "This seller is away" notice for a week. Contacted them again the next week and no response. Have told them I want a refund or replacement.

I thought the money back guarantee would still cover you if the item is not as described, but there seems to be no way to contact anyone to complain. The autobot just says raise a return, then the returns page falls over when it spots the no returns flag.

The MBG does cover you if the item is not as described. "No returns" doesn't prevent that. The seller's return policy doesn't apply if the item is not as described. That is also true on eBay UK, where you are registered.

If you can't open a return request, then something else is going on. What are the item numbers that you purchased? We need to take a look at the special listing the seller made for you, so we can figure out what the problem is. If  the seller posted it in the wrong category to invalidate the MBG, there are things that an be done about that, for example.

Thanks for the info, @adr2855.

That listing was sold on July 5, 2023, almost 6 weeks ago. It was covered by the MBG, for up to 30 calendar days after the estimated or actual delivery/collection date has passed.

You did pay for it through eBay checkout, didn't you? I presume that the seller shipped it, even though it was collection only?  Or, did you get a QR code to send to the seller?

I don't really think that's the issue, though, because your complaint would be not as described, not item not received.

Did you actually open a return request, or did all of this happen through messages, rather then an actual return?  You have up to 30 days after you receive the item to open a return request. You mentioned that at least several weeks went by, while you were working things out through the seller. Unfortunately, if you delayed more than 30 days before you actually opened the return request, then it was too late. The Money Back Guarantee time frame had expired.

Re: How to get a refund.

To be honest I've been busy so hadn't realised that much time had passed. Just been through my PMs and they arrived on the 11th, after I'd chased as there was no tracking number provided.

I have left negative feedback now and will chalk it up to experience.

Thanks for taking the time to respond 🙂

Re: How to get a refund.

30 day MBG is Bull crap for transactions like this on ebay! Learned my lesson when I lost $645.00 (USD) when a purchased auto differential was defective but didn't find out until 4 days past the 30 day MBG due to mechanic being busy and not being able to get the vehicle in to install and back in to diagnose the defective unit! Ended up filing a dispute with the CC company and got the differential refunded AFTER I paid $120.00 to send the defective differential back AND $535.00 for the labor to change out the unit a second time! And I couldn't even leave a negative feedback for the seller! Done with ebay who is no longer buyer friendly! BUYERS BEWARE!!🙂
