Has anyone else noticed that buyers have caught on to the fact that if they simply LIE about why they're returning an item they can still get free return shipping? Example: On "buyers remorse" I don't have to pay for return shipping, or I have the option of not returning the original shipping, but if they use a different reason such as "wrong item sent", they automatically get free return shipping. Recently I had a buyer write to tell me he wanted a return because he had "already bought the same shirt twice", but then listed the reason for the return as "wrong item sent", making it my fault and I had to pay for return shipping. Is eBay recognizing this? Has anyone else encountered this? Thanks.

Faulty returns are currently 10 out of my last 12.
Would be 11 but they forgot to pick a non remorse reason...they even messaged me and asked why I only refunded the purchase price.

Hi @mamatoldme
Sadly, lying appears to be an integral part of buying online. You only need to spend a few minutes reading posts on the boards to know that buyers lie about the reason for returns ... and sellers lie about the reason for cancelling. [I've personally had sellers claim I requested a cancellation while I was eagerly awaiting the item.]

Just a head's up.
Check your preferences. My last two returns the buyer chose a remorse reason but it cost me because my preferences had been changed to free returns.
I stopped selling. It was no longer worth the hassle

Many sellers are aware of it. This has been going on for years.

Maybe package didn't arrive on time. I've had packages show up long after I ordered a replacement on Amazon or picked up something else locally. eBay doesn't offer an option for such an incident, so buyer may be forced to use the only option available to avoid shipping cost. I've tried the "honest" method, and seller charged over $50 for return shipping on a $60 item.
I understand your frustration, but the problem is on both sides. eBay is a mostly unregulated marketplace and these are the risks you take when doing business on this platform.

About 1 in 500 know this system. The odds of a sale 'going through without issue' is way up in the 90 percentile, for most (barring you are new and selling high end electronics, jewelry, fashion etc. then all the scammers are notified by the Bat Signal in the sky and you are swallowed up like a fish in a shark tank)
