So I purchased headphones 4 days ago and today they arrived, but with an exception, they were coated with hair and earwax. I ended up deep cleaning the headphones and accidentally damaged the right driver and now there is a faint bass noise whenever anc is on. What should I expect?

Return them as "Item not as described"< Coated with hair and earwax was not described in the listing<

Actually struggling with you even attempting to clean them and then wear them - ick

If the description did not indicate they were used and coated with hair and earwax then yes file a NAD return. I agree with downunder-61 not sure I would have ever tried to clean and use them.

That is a tough one. You tampered with them and in doing so damaged them, that would hardly be fair to the seller to return them broken.
With that said, it is disgusting that they shipped you items that were in that condition. IDK why you would even consider trying to clean them and then put them in your ears. I'm cringing here !!!
I'm on the fence with this one.

Had they not tampered with them, I wouldn't hesitate to suggest they return them, or even suggest to the seller that they could be a biohazard and just ask for a refund (after all, I wouldn't want those sold to someone else!).
Since they only tampered with them because of the seller's mistake, I think it's perfectly fair to file a NAD case in this instance.

From the OP " I ended up deep cleaning the headphones and accidentally damaged the right driver...". That is tampering with the item. And due to their actions, they damaged the item by their own admission.
I am in no way defending the seller. They were so wrong on so many levels for shipping something out in the condition they did, but the buyer has a problem since their actions caused damage to the item.
It is not the buyer's [or yours] responsibility to make sure the item isn't sold to someone else in the same condition in which the OP received it.
Like I said, I'm on the fence on this one and I still am.

He wouldn't needed try clean them if they were not so disgusting.
Lets see use logic! LOL
Good: Item arrived working
Bad: Arrived with Ear Schmegma & Hair
Bad: Furry Schmegma was not in the description even as a value added kinda thang.
Bad: Buyer had to clean Furry Schmegma
I measure that as 3:1 in favor iNAD = "Item nasty and disgusting."

The correct thing to have done was to return them the instant you saw their condition. Once you do anything to them, they are yours.

Should I supply my own bubble wrap? The seller did not use any bubble wrap and just put them in a box.

I'm not on the fence about this one.
I am 100% in favor of a NAD return.
IMO The seller should be thankful that the buyer even considered cleaning/keeping the item.
When that didn't work out .,.... RETURN!

To me, this would have been the correct way to go, and I agree that once you do something to it that changes its functionality, it's yours. Besides, when the seller gets it back, they can claim the item is either a different one that was returned or that it was not returned in the same condition as it was sent because it was working when sold and no longer is. Judging by the FB left by the buyer for others, it's not the first time they've had some problems with items they've bought unfortunately, so I hope they have better luck with their future purchases.

Never ceases to amaze me what some sellers will try to sell.

Right?
This ranks up there with buying a electric toothbrush with used heads and toothpaste all over it...
"Oh yeah! That's the one I want!"

I think you may have mis-read my post. I never said or suggested that the OP should try to clean the item.
The OP said they tried to clean the item and damage it.
I agree they should have done nothing to the item and just return it, but now they have damaged the item by their own actions.
Your 2nd and 3rd point are the same. Your 4th point fails to mention the buyer damaged the item in their zeal to clean it.
Buyers may be liable for loss in value of the item if it's returned in a different condition from which it was received, or if the item is not packaged securely to prevent damage in shipment. In the event that an item is returned used or damaged, the seller might deduct the amount of loss from the buyer's refund.
This applies when the loss in value is due to handling of the goods which was not necessary for checking the condition, properties, or mode of operation.
Items that are returned after inspection through eBay Authenticity Guarantee will be sent back to the buyer, and a refund will not be issued, if the item is returned in a different condition from which it was received. Learn more about eBay Authenticity Guarantee.
Buyers who have a history of abusing the returns process may be subject to the consequences outlined in our Abusive buyer policy.
