12 years with no returns..now a buyers remorse return.."does not fit"?

Have not posted much in a while on here but now is the time for any feedback from community I can get. Been selling on here pretty regularly for around 12 years. So I have my first return on its way back to me now (I realize I am probably blessed this is the first) however to a perfectionist artist like me it still stings some especially when this buyers remorse - does not fit is involved with a piece of art that was clearly marked in the item specs and description as to what they would pay for and get.

I get it that I offer buyer paid 30 day returns and as long as I get back what i sent them undamaged that I will give payment back.  I have called eBay 3 times about this and have been told it is buyer remorse..its not an item not as described but I have read where this actually could be one in disguise?

The buyers intentions seem to have thrown a red flag up to me and I think also to eBay staff but who knows. After they received item I got message that this was too small of painting and they were looking for a 12x20. They also stated they thought 8x10 was much larger. I offered a print to be made for them in a new listing and the next thing they open return case. They also later made statements about Thank you we will enjoy the 8x10 so I messaged asking if they were keeping art ? Then they said they were sending the small one back? So bottom line I am trying to see what I may need to do if package does not have original painting in it that they paid for and also what I may want to change in my settings as far as things that can be checked or filtered out to my advantage against this since my return rate is like 1.4 percent now and not sure what all else is going to dinged on my side. Also they are asking for 12.90 back when I do not believe thats what they paid for the item?

Anyone gone through this with art could maybe help the most but I would like to hear on other cases also.

Thanks

Well, your very lucky to have made it so long.  Yep you will have to take it back. You only have to refund what they paid including shipping both ways. Or, you can just refund their payment and let them keep if for free. I don't like that as much as it encourages them.  But it might be the cheaper way out.  Welcome to the club!

Awesome for you!!

Just a silly question have you made a return of any kind in the last 10 years?

You're really overthinking this. If they sent the item back, and on their dime if I read your post right, all you need to do is wait for it to get to you, and, if it is your painting, refund their money. If it is not your painting, that's when you try to get eBay involved. In the meantime, sit back and relax. Nothing you can do yet.

And it shouldn't hurt your return rate as it is buyers remorse and you refund promptly.

I probably am and really not much I can do except wait for the package. The return rate is 1.4 percent based on 80 sales. If I am looking correctly it has already been changed?

It's a remorse and the buyer pays for return shipping so the seller is not required to pay for return shipping.

If the buyer paid separately for shipping vs 'free shipping' the seller does not have to refund the original shipping either.

@mural_man88 Because this is your first return, you are over thinking this- completely. Your account will not suffer from one return so forget about your return rate. Only you can see that anyways so get past the sting and let that go.

I'm going to presume, based on what you wrote, that this is the sale of the $12.00 painting with free shipping, which is why the buyer paid $12.90 with tax. So that would be why they are asking for $12.90 returned. English may not be their primary language so give them some slack on their responses. Stop expecting them to ship you back a painting of dogs playing poker, relax.

This is a remorse return so you will not be expected to pay for a return label by eBay, that does not exclude the payment source the buyer used so keep that in mind as well. At this point you should just accept the return and sit back and wait, with a little more optimism on your part. Good things come to those who think good thoughts.

There was no reason for you to call eBay, mush less three times, and I advise to not involve them again because they have been known to place a $20 charge for having gotten involved in a return case. That would be higher than the original purchase price for this transaction. The return system is purposely set up to be automatic and handled without eBay's involvement, unless there is an issue. You do not have an issue at this point, you are simply dealing with this for the first time.

I personally love your artwork and am glad I just "found" you with this post. Please concentrate on selling more of your artwork and let this play out as it will, to your benefit. Best of luck to you....

Right..I guess I am overthinking the return part. I had originally thought that there was a best offer involved but there was not on the piece of art so $12.90 is correct.

It was not clear it the buyer had filed a not as described case. Does not fit could go either way.

A return labeled as "does not fit" is remorse
