Monthly Chat - December 14th at 1:00 pm PST

Hi everyone! This month’s chat will be an open forum for you to ask questions to the Community Team. Get your questions ready so we can have an informative and fun filled chat on December 14th at 1PM PST!

-----

Edit: Thanks for joining us for the Monthly Chat with your Community Team.

The chat thread will remain open until 2 PM PT at which point we'll close it from additional responses. After that time, we'll continue to work on responding to any queries that might still be unanswered.

To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, type your question, and hit submit between 1-2 PM Pacific Time. The format of our chat mirrors the format of our Community Discussion Boards, where each post will appear in the thread chronologically. The Community Team will review each question as it comes in, and will quote the original question in our reply. This quote and the reply will appear later in the thread, so just keep scrolling down to see our answers.

As a reminder, we want to be able to get to as many members as possible during the allotted hour, so we have a few things to ask of you:

  • Keep on topic
  • Scroll through the list of questions to see what has already been asked to decrease chances of redundancy
  • Keep the message/question simple and no more than one to two items. If you include multiple questions in a post, please be aware that they may not be addressed during the chat and we'll will do their best to follow-up with it after the chat has closed

Missed the chat? Send your questions to the podcast by calling 888-723-4630 or email us at podcast@ebay.com and maybe your questions will make it on the air! Or listen to past episodes while you wait for next month!

Re: Monthly Chat - December 14th at 1:00 pm PST

eBay currently has a limit of $1.00 minimum when a seller issues a refund.  I believe eBay should remove this limit.  For instance, if I have a buyer who purchases 2 postcards listed at $1.00 + $.60 shipping and pays for each separately, I can mail them together with a total shipping cost of $.60.  I would like to refund $.60 to the buyer as a courtesy.  But eBay has this arbitrary limit requiring me to refund $1.00 or to make no refund.

Good afternoon elizabeth@ebay !  And any other Team members supporting today.

Subject:  Completed Returns for Refunds dropping off the list

Would it be possible to have someone advise how long a completed return for refund takes to drop off the Seller Hub "All open returns/replacements" folder?  I have one where the flow shows the Buyer received their refund on December 2nd but 7 days later it is still there.  The transaction is complete.

-Does it remain until the original time frame the Buyer was given  to return the item expires?

-Does it remain if it was not a full refund, meaning original shipping was withheld due to a remorse return?

Any clarity on this would be greatly appreciated ...

They don't have to be tech savvy, they likely just need to be informed they have the option.  It is a very easy process for them.  It is fine if you handle it.  I would likely do the same, but when notifying the buyer that I will take care of it, I would provide them with the information on how they can do this on their own if they would like to be in control of the process.

When I ran auctions, my buyers were usually very grateful for the information share.

Hey @clarkphilatelics you can certainly limit the marketing emails you get by going to your communication preferences page here.

Something appears to have changed in regard to sales tax for freight forwarders based in Florida on or around December 1.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Buying/ebay-suddenly-charges-Sales-Tax-for-a-tax-exempt-location/m-p/3...

Previously, freight forwarder addresses that used Florida's 0% tax rate zip codes set up specifically for that purpose were not charged tax.  But now those same addresses are suddenly being charged sales tax.

There is nothing on eBay's help page about sales tax that indicates any changes for tax collection in Florida.

Can you check with the tax team and find out if this was an intended change (in which case the help pages need to be updated) or if there is an error?

We'll definitely get this passed along to our Tax Team @valueaddedresource to see what's going on.

Re: Monthly Chat - December 14th at 1:00 pm PST

I was sad to see that new VP Seller Experience Xiaodi Zhang didn't make an appearance at the Holiday Seller Check In last month.  I know when Harry Temkin held that role, sellers always looked forward to his demos and deep dives on seller tools.

Will seller check ins still be quarterly in 2023 and is Xiaodi planning on reviving the Temkin tradition of giving us in depth demos of new tools and features as part of the agenda?

With separate transactions don't you have the 30 cent per transaction fee too or is that something not done in your category?  And if you do have to pay this fee, why would you need to refund anything?  As part of my TOS I state that if a buyer pays with separate transactions, the combined shipping discount will be less due to the fees.

Why is it not possible to easily send offers to buyers with recently expired offers. What good is it to miss an offer received over a weekend when no one may be available to respond?

Hey @clarkphilatelics. What issues are you running into? With buyers being able to send 5 counteroffers per 24 hours and sellers being able to send 3 every 48 hours, I definitely want to be able to pass along exactly what's happening.

When an offer expires there is no direct way to post an offer to the eBay ID that posted the original offer. If they and others are watching, all will see the offer which could be unfair if the original person who posted the offer loses out to someone else watching. If no one is watching, making an offer to the person with an expired offer appears to be impossible or incredibly awkward.

Re: Monthly Chat - December 14th at 1:00 pm PST

Please remove the comma between state and ZIP code on eBay packing slips.

Example:  California, 92284-1258 should be California 92284-1258

This is a minor issue, but I believe if eBay is more careful with minor issues possibly there would be fewer major issues on this site.

Re: Monthly Chat - December 14th at 1:00 pm PST

With less than 2 weeks until Christmas, does eBay have plans to do any mass general holiday advertising for the entire site, not just specific verticals?

Competitor marketplaces are running some clever and heartwarming TV spots this season - it's sad not to see eBay up there with them.

IMHO it is a bit late for that.

My all time favorite was the IT campaign.  Do you remember that one.  I loved it.  I was always looking for a lamp for my desk in the shape of IT.  LOL

Hey @buyselljack2016. Our Security Specialist's will be able to help here. Please reach out to them, so they can see what's going on and assist with getting you verified.

What happened to the recent QuickBooks promotion offering some sellers a "free" year of QuickBooks?

Hey @clarkphilatelics there is an open alert for this issue (ALERT14308).  I'd recommend anyone who received an invite on this promotion to get in touch with our customer service teams so that they can be given the proper link to get set up.

When I tried that before, important emails like sales were suppressed. It is difficult to buy on the same site where I sell, and it is possible to follow specific sellers, controlling unwanted marketing emails has been a problem. I avoid using the eBay website whenever possible because SixBit provides a superior experience for creating listings, fulfilling orders and retaining data. It is important to see a sample of eBay's marketing emails, but seeing all attempts is intrusive.
