Good afternoon.
eBay has a category: Other-Websites-Businesses-for-Sale
If one goes to that category, chooses "newly listed" it seems like only ONE in ten or fifteen items is actually a business or website for sale. All the rest are PRODUCTS listed in the seemingly wrong category. These include: shampoo, coffee, nuts/bolts/screws, hair extensions, fans, switches, etc.
Why is this allowed? Are there no eBay filters that disallow this practice? Or is it allowed? It is not just this category but many others as well.
https://www.ebay.com/b/Other-Websites-Businesses-for-Sale/2992/bn_7203511?rt=nc&_sop=10
Just curious. P.S. reporting such things are basically useless. The same "dinnerware" sets and "pet supplies" etc. are still visible in "Other Travel" with more added every day.
Thank you for your time.
PS The link to that category is not working right now....Gateway/timed out. Should be back up later if you want to look.Hey @ittybitnot it sounds like they are mis-categorizing their product which for sure is not allowed and it may make it harder for their buyer to find their items. I'm happy to pass this along to the relevant teams for sure! Thank you for your time!
jasmen@ebay just to be clear, this is something far more nefarious and harmful to buyers than making it harder to find items because they are in the wrong category.
This is part of the ongoing scam problem where sellers are intentionally listing in these categories because they do not offer eMBG/buyer protection. Often they are fake listings using pictures lifted from other websites, the "seller" does not have the item and has no intention of sending it and the buyer is out of luck because they can't get their money back.
So this would also be a situation where the simple "just report the listing" advice does not go far enough - eBay has been aware this fraud is happening for over a month now, more proactive action on eBay's part is needed and absolutely warranted.

Reason this is happening is this part of such listings
"(Not eligible for eBay purchase protection programs)"
Its scammers listing such items in the categories with out buyers protection.
Goes to the suggestion I have posted in this topic ...
The mess is causing problems:
and the scammers see a way to steal money from the buyers.

Do we have any updates on when the Available to ship page will be fixed.
To recap I have two issues. One is an item I shipped several days ago still shows on the Available to ship page even though it has a tracking number recorded on the sale. I use to have 3 of them now I'm down to one.
On the main Seller Hub page and looking at the Order box, the above described issue does NOT show up as there being something in my Available to ship line item that needs to ship. The count is zero since I completed all my shipping, yet if you click on Available to ship and go into the screen, the order above still appears. The sale happened on May 2nd and was shipped on the same day. The tracking shows delivered on May 7th.
The other thing is when there are items on this page that do need to be shipped, it no longer has the first option on the left at the head of the drop down list to Purchase shipping label.
Hi @mam98031! No updates yet on the having that update to shipped.
With your other question, are you saying that when you go to ship an item there is no option to purchase a shipping label? Would you reply with a screen shot in case we need to file a new ticket?

A page stating this and that the purchaser acknowledges it prior to accepting sale.
Would save every one a great deal of time...
Also thanks for doing this again. always worth the read...

What I don't understand is that Ebay knows this is an issue, a serious issue, for weeks and weeks now. Why isn't someone from Ebay delegated into looking closely at these categories and getting the listings that don't belong in these categories taken down.
I mean we all know the policy needs to be fixed, so we are all waiting for that. I don't understand why it is taking Ebay so long to plug this hole, but they surely have their reasons for it. But in the meantime they could prevent many buyers from having to suffer this site made loophole that is very serious.
I've tried to help some of these buyers and most say they will never use Ebay again. We don't want this happening as it is bad for Ebay and it is bad for sellers too. We want our buyers to stay. It is the sellers that are taking advantage of this issue that need to go.
Why I am offering a fast suggestion to the problem.
Scammers are using this to ripp of them buyers: and as you have said running of good buyers....

What does eBay have against capitalization?
Why do I (and many others) have sold items listed under awaiting shipment?
Why is my selling data no longer showing as ending soonest, but instead a jumbled up mess?
Hey @divwido sorry you're running into this! The shipping issue is a known one but should be resolved by now, have you tried opening your account up in an incognito window to see if it makes a difference for both of those issues ?

And ALL those sellers should be booted. I get it that as a seller we may not get the right category on our listings from time to time, but there is no way that someone selling a game controller or a gaming system mistakenly posts it in the Business equipment categories. These are clearly intentional with the sole reason to scam the buyer.
I shouldn't take us to tell Ebay this as it should be crystal clear to anyone that is actually paying attention to the details.

Ebay doesn't care, been reporting duplicate listings for years, still doing it, still flooding the market with 4-10 identical items(price, item color, item) NOTHING and I've even called in and was told by rep it was against the rules and they take care of it. NOTHING.
As far as reporting it, just wasting my time and losing money

Sorry that is my fault, I should have provided a better explanation. It use to be the first thing that showed in the left column before having to access the drop down menu. It said in blue letters right below the date Purchase label. It does not say that right now. You have to call up the drop down menu and select Purchase label. So it is an extra step that wasn't there before about a week ago

I completely agree with you. But I just take it one step further. I think the sellers that are clearly taking advantage of this loop hole should be booted. They are more than willing to steal from buyers. We don't need or want sellers like that on the site. I personally see this as a big enough breach of the rules to summarily ban them.

Thanks jasmen@ebay - what about the baby formula question? Is eBay going to proactively and automatically identity and take action on price gouging during the current emergency like they did during peak pandemic?

Which department in eBay is responsible for monitoring and improving seller efficiency? How much seller time is spent on eBay related activities unrelated to acquiring inventory, creating listings, and fulfilling orders? Who at eBay is responsible for assessing and understanding the impact of listing tool changes, item specific s requirements, and Managed Payments on seller efficiency? Has eBay estimated the number of unlisted because items attributable increased time required to list items and choose item specifics or difficult to capture and process Managed Payments reports? How will sellers handle new packaging requirements from countries like Germany? Will every country be different and impose different packaging requirements?
