Re: Community Chat, March 20 @ 1:00 pm PT - General Topics

When Ebay has launched major potentially controversial changes in the past, it has allowed sellers to opt out (e.g. guaranteed delivery). Given that third party surveys have found that 72% of their respondents found forced GTC to be a "bad change," can you share EBay's reasoning in not allowing an opt out here?

I like the new black logo shipping boxes better than the blue circles- but I still like the old white logo boxes much more than the black. I also think the old white logo goes better with the classic tape than the black logo does.

Are there any plans to bring back 8" cubes this year?

Hi @coffeebean832, I'm not aware of any plans to bring back the 8" cube boxes. The Shipping Supplies store is aware of the Communities desire to have cube box options and they do take that into consideration.

During the last week there has been something wrong with e-mail notifications. I’m only getting an e-mail alert from eBay for about one out of every six items that sells. My settings have the correct communication preferences set up and they haven’t been changed. E-mails are not going to my spam folder- there just aren’t any e-mails coming in for the majority of sales.

I've been seeing the same thing. Thank goodness for PayPal emails.

Eliminated all the possibilities on my side and with eBay account settings. This may or may not be coincidental, but the only change to communications that I'd made before the problem started was I'd unsubscribed some of my saved searches. Added a saved search back, and sales emails are back.

BTW, this started happening before the early spring update email was sent out, so I never received that. I first learned about the early spring update because I'm subscribed to Announcements.

@tree*fern - thanks for letting me know about this, and what a weird wrinkle about the saved searches popping your notification emails back into play. I'll get you added to the ticket. 🙂

Thanks tyler, I wasn't expecting anything specific, more like hoping for some rough idea as to whether repeated manual relists would see much of a benefit in Best Match?

Hi @my-cottage-books-and-antiques - all the information I have indicates that repeated manual relists don't impact search standing.  However, as the site shifts and changes I can't guarantee that there won't be changes to the algorithm in the future. Fair questions though!

I think this is a different test, with different durations, although I'm not certain. Tyler, do you know anything about the previous, similar tests?

@my-cottage-books-and-antiques - I don't have a lot of insight into that particular test, but from what I can recall it was testing a more broad set of functions that I don't think were particularly helpful (remember the 'Seller responds to offers' bit?). I think after feedback and input from us and the Community they're back to test a more streamlined flow focused on just the duration as opposed to other 'calls to action' in the listing form.

On some of the threads regarding this GTC mandate, some sellers are saying they never got an email from Ebay regarding the Early Spring Seller Update.  Doesn't this type of email go to all sellers or is there something in Site Preferences that can turn them off?  Or some other way within the seller's control to make sure they get these emails?

Also on my Seller Hub at the top it has a link to the Early Spring Seller Update, but through sharing this information on a thread, it became clear that it does not appear at the top of all Seller Hubs.  Please advise.

Hi @mam98031, I've looked into reports of this and were able to find messages from eBay in every instance I have reviewed. Many times I found the messages in the trash folder, or saw that they were unread. No site preferences can prevent this from being sent out to eBay messages or email, and while sellers may have filters or automation set up in their private emails to route eBay emails to junk/trash/an unused folder, the copy in eBay Messages would always be received.

As for the notice to check out the 2019 Early Seller Update, I checked into this and can confirm that by default the Selling Announcements section appears towards the top of Seller Hub and would contain a notice to check out this update. Some sellers may have customized their Seller Hub to move or remove this section, possibly explaining the differences you are seeing compared to others. This also could be related to the banner at the top of the Overview page being account specific, changing regularly and highlighting one of many possible notices.

I would recommend having sellers check their personal email preferences, the trash folder in their eBay Messages and directing them to subscribe to the Announcements board so they do not miss anything.

Hi @marst_ambe - I'm sorry to hear that the tablet you bought isn't going to work for what you needed it for! The best thing for you to do in this situation is to continue to work with the seller of the item. Oftentimes, if a return was automatically accepted but you would prefer to work out a different solution contacting the seller by message is the best course of action.

If you need more direct help with this you can always reach out to our Customer Service teams by phone or social media (Twitter or Facebook).

It was explained to me that the service metrics compared us to peers selling similar items at similar prices in similar categories. In my category however, that does not appear to be the case. Big ticket item sellers are being compared to high volume low priced item sellers leaving us at a serious disadvantage, almost ensuring at some point many of us will be paying penalty rates simply for selling high quality and high priced items.

This is easily confirmed by the fact that the service metrics show INR claims significantly higher then SNAD return rate. That is not something you would expect to find on big ticket item sales comparisons, but rather where low value items are too cheap to be worth returning and too cheap to be worth buying tracking! How ebay can call feedback manipulating $3 item sellers shipping with a postage stamp my peer simply makes no sense! There is no way sellers with an average of selling price over all of $266 at high volume would have more INR's then SNAD returns. Can someone please look into this and see if it is a glitch or error?

Hi @coinslabz26, you are correct that the peer benchmarks for the Item not as described metric is created by comparing a seller with sellers on the same listing site, selling items in the same category with a similar price point, return policy, and delivery estimate. I did check your Service Metrics and found that the average Item Not Received benchmark is lower than the average Not As Described benchmark. I want to assure you that the Service Metrics is pulling in the correct data to create these benchmarks.

So then you have confirmed there is a problem? I am seeing a HIGHER average of INR then SNAD. That is how I know there is a problem. You probably checked the 1 year look back for less then 400 transactions which seemed more accurate. Now that I am OVER 400 it is comparing me to $3 item sellers. Something is very wrong.

Hi @coinslabz26, I want to address an assumption that is being made that you are in the wrong peer group based solely on the fact that the projected rate for Item Not Received is slightly higher than the projected rate for Not As Described. I want to reassure you that I do not see a cause for concern with the numbers presented for either the current rate or projected rate on your Seller Metrics. These numbers will fluctuate with each review period and this is normal.

You mentioned in your last message that you reached the 400 transaction mark within a 3 month period, which means you are now on a 3 month review period for Service Metrics and are now in a peer group with sellers that have a higher volume of transactions within the same 3 month period. This peer group does have a similar price point to you, in addition to the other factors used to determine your peer group. Since a higher volume of transactions are taking place it is reasonable that the benchmarks will be different (likely higher) than what a 12 month review period would have.

On the shipping preferences page there is a glitch. https://www.ebay.com/ship/prf

Send buyers an e-mail with tracking- when "yes" is selected, this auto-enables FedEx carrier-specific discounts to buyers.

When FedEx is de-selected from offering carrier-specific discounts to buyers, that triggers the send buyers an e-mail with tracking to revert back to "no".

Hi @coffeebean832 - thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'll get it reported. Thanks!

FYI
Post #60 Jen didn't get her seller update lucky she was subscribed to Announcements

Hi @labs118, I believe that @tree*fern is a posting ID/buying ID that is not registered to sell, as it looks like there are no sales on this account. If an account is not registered to sell there won't be a seller update email sent. That being said, I can can confirm that a message was sent to all the selling accounts I have looked into.

Hello, Trinton,

I inquired about why some of the free shipping envelopes are now listed as "Limited Edition". The reply from Jason was that the sizes would still be available in a re-design. Please let me know if a new uniform design will be printed on those envelopes and all the other ones as well, and when that will occur. I was one of the sellers who made it known that the printed slogan was not a well thought out design.

Hi @rosevelyn, I don't have a timeframe to provide on when future re-designs may be released. Keep an eye on our shipping supply store for updates!
