Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me for the Weekly Chat with eBay Staff. I don't have a specific topic this week, so feel free to share any general buying or selling questions you may have.
The chat thread will remain open until 2 PM PT at which point I'll close it from additional responses. After that time, I'll continue to work on responding to any queries that might still be unanswered.
To post your question, click Reply in the lower right corner of this post, type your question, and hit submit between 1-2 PM Pacific Time. The format of our chat mirrors the format of our Community Discussion Boards, where each post will appear in the thread chronologically. The Community Team will review each question as it comes in, and will quote the original question in our reply. This quote and the reply will appear later in the thread, so just keep scrolling down to see our answers.
Missed the chat? Send your questions to the podcast by calling 888-723-4630 or email us at podcast@ebay.com and maybe your questions will make it on the air! Or listen to past episodes while you wait for next Wednesday!

@gracieallen01 - I hope the same thing, though I do think I'd look great with a 10-gallon hat.

The MBG is making a mockery of the sellers rights with regard to fraudulent claims, incorrect items being returned, or empty boxes, buyers damaged items and admitted it but still claim INAD. It is a farce, and sellers are unable to prove these things as eBay will not even entertain looking at messages between buyer and seller BEFORE forcing the refund. Sellers are becoming afraid to list anything over $100.00 because the advice to any new seller on eBay is “Don’t sell anything you can’t afford to lose” What a great endorsement for eBay!
I assume you will want examples, well here is less than day’s worth. Let me know if you need more

It seems there are more and more posts from ebay users that they are receiving RETURNED items from buyers, and they have no idea why. Many of these users are NOT sellers, and these returns are coming from different people.
Does ebay have any idea why this is happening? And how to stop it?
Hi @disneyshopper - that's definitely odd. It's hard to know exactly why this may be happening. Anytime this comes up members should report it to customer service so it can be looked into further.

Following up on mams question from the 7/7 chat session and mine 7/14 as here:
When a buyer opens a claim in Ebay, we can enter typed information and pictures if needed and give details as a seller, BUT when a Chargeback is filed [buyer files a claim with their Credit card] those options do NOT exist. The ONLY thing you can enter is a tracking number. Depending on the reason for the chargeback that frequently is NOT enough info for Ebay and/or the CCC to have to accurately resolve the Chargeback.
ALL MP needs to do is allow for comments from the Seller to be entered into the Chargeback record that is reviewed by a REAL person and the info shared with the CCC. Sellers are LOSING Chargeback claims and getting charged a $20 fee because of it and this is completely unjust and unfair in many cases. But due to a lack of information by Ebay and therefore the CCC, no one knows the details except the seller which in MP they WON'T allow us to share during the Chargeback process.
@downunder-61 - thank you for this input - I'll make sure that this is submitted to the Payments team for consideration.
Any update on this Please ??? eBay Chat 7/28

Very concerned about ebay standardized envelope shipping. I am a TRS with 100% feedback & 0 defects. I shipped with it the 1st time yesterday--buyer purchased 7/27/21, I shipped 7/27/21, still not scanned by USPS as of 5 minutes ago. Ebay needs to fix this.
I've identified many problems researching this service.
-Pay parcel rate due to non-bendable
-Non-machineable
-Uneven thickness
-Rigid
-Postage due $4.00
...Just to name a few

The usual explanation I've heard is that it's Chinese junk sellers choosing to eat the original sale price for an uncontested return-for-refund claim, as opposed to having to pay return postage for the unwanted return all the way from the USA.
The way it works is that they provide a domestic (U.S.) return label to some randomly-chosen recipient residing here (most likely a customer from a previous sale, since it's a known deliverable address), and as soon as tracking shows the returned item has been delivered to the baffled recipient, the seller can refund the original buyer.
I must admit that I don't know why the Chinese sellers don't just refund without return, and skip all the business with return labels that go someplace else instead, but I haven't had first-hand experience with this so I can't say for sure.

Why, oh why, can't the cart checkout be updated to allow mobile app users to "Request Total From Seller"???
The number of users that are using mobile apps increases all the time. It is a royal PITA to not have that function available.
Hi @biggymoe - I don't know if this is something that will be implemented, but we've received this feedback in the past and have passed it along to the mobile app team. I hope we'll see it in a future release, but I haven't heard any indication that it's being worked on.

Hi @downunder-61 - thanks for sharing what you've been seeing. I will definitely review these threads and get feedback to the proper team, but the best course of action to take for members who have concerns over a return request would be to contact CS so they can review any options available to them.

Hi @downunder-61 - no, but that's typical with suggestions we send to the payments team. I can confirm that we made sure the suggestion was made with the developers, and I surfaced it in several reports to management. I don't know if we'll see this process change in the near future, but I hope it does.

Hi tyler@ebay : Not referring to this case specifically, but generally speaking, when you ask for an update from such-and-such a team on a specific issue that was previously discussed here, and don't get something back within, say, 24 hours (so that you can relay their reply here by adding it on to the end of the closed chat session), are you able to escalate the issue to someone else by name?
Seems like since you are working for the same company as the team you're trying to contact, you should be entitled to a timely response, even if it's proprietary info that you can't share verbatim.

I had never heard of Crumbl until today. I googled it and found there is one down the street from me! My mouth is watering... I'm trying to decide if this temptation may be too dangerous. They look SO good!

I just want to add a bit to @downunder-61 posts about charge backs. In a normal charge back the seller would have full correspondence with the payment provider in the process of determination. On ebay, seller has none, nor do they have any reasonable method to argue the case, nor does ebay allow to inform seller on the process... did I get something wrong here, ebay isn't the seller, ebay has does nothing but process the buyers payment, shouldn't the seller have full participation in the charge back case? It seems all ebay is doing is kissing the payment provider behind and agreeing, not fighting for the platforms sellers at all and then charging sellers a extra $20 for ebay doing nothing to fight for them. Don't believe (and most all sellers) that is a good or fair policy to keep. Ebay has allowed scammers to run rampant and literally aides in their ability to scam sellers - remember, it's not just sellers losing money, ebay loses in this also.

There's an [expletive deleted] icon at the bottom of my screen--that was not there last week--that bounces control back to the top of the page.
It is partially overlapping the scroll down arrow, so it activates about 1 in 3 times I try to scroll down.
PLEASE get rid if it! It is monumentally annoying.
