There has been some discussion in the last week about a message ebay is sending potential buyers about - Seller is offering RETURNS on the item you searched, so why not purchase it to see if you like it.
One of the user is is claiming eBay is telling potential buyers that - "Try it out, you can return it, there's no financial risk to do so!"
Could you confirm or deny this is the kind of messaging you are sending buyers. Would it be possible to just include a copy of the message in your reply so all sellers participating in this chat can have a clear understanding of what you are telling buyers.
Thanks
Hi @goodluckselling - I'm not familiar with that kind of wording in marketing emails. I found a thread discussing it but it looks like everyone there is paraphrasing. A screenshot of the email itself would be really helpful so we can provide proper feedback to marketing. I'll request it. Thanks!

General suggestion ('cause I could be here all day with larger issues!):
Recently on my personal buying account, I asked a (new) seller if he combined shipping. I was bidding on two things of his, both with the same shipping costs, and was interested if they could be shipped together for convenience and maybe savings assuming I won both sales. He replied he didn't combine --- because he didn't know how!
While we more seasoned sellers may know where to find information, eBay has become a tangled mess lately, especially with the updated format. Maybe some sort of tutorial for someone listing their first item(s) for sale? (Or is there one already?)

Hi @terrycanarsky, we do have some great resources in our Seller Center for New Sellers, including specific suggestions on Combined Shipping. I can also recommend one of our recent Knowledge Base articles on ways to improve slow sales that highlights some of the most commonly used resources within our Seller Center

While I certain agree that the policy pages on Ebay are a hot mess. Hard to search and the complete info for a given subject may be covered under multiple policies that may not be known to the member, further complicating things.
With that said, combining shipping charges isn't a difficult thing. IMHO it falls into a new seller NOT wanting to do their research on HOW to sell on Ebay BEFORE jumping in and selling. Too many new sellers operate like this and it only hurts us all. Back in the beginning of Ebay this wasn't a big deal as there were only a few rules or procedures available, but now the woods are full of them.
IMHO there should be a class, video or something required by Ebay to be viewed by the potential new seller before selling is even allowed. It should cover all the basics of selling. I realize that some will attend the class yet not pay attention and there is no way for all the rules being covered [as there are too many]. I get that. But the basics of selling could be covered. It would benefit ALL sellers because we would have less new sellers doing the wrong things.
Then there are many things they can't and won't learn without experience, but that is with any job really. A required class however could cut down on a lot of the issues for new sellers.

As always, thanks for the reply Brian but quite honestly I am a little surprised considering all the different box sizes our main competitor ships in. Is the alure of eBay Branded supplies waning or people just aren't using them? I personally like them, especially since they are Free but also provide a slighlty more professional appearance. Oh, the other advantage to using a USPS footprint is that it winds up helping the USPS cube out trucks, delivery vehicles, etc. They are already geared for that L x W and the H would simply be a function of other Flat Rate boxes stacked (its a math thing). I really hope the eBay Packaging Group thinks outside the box here (no pun intended ... well okay, actually it was intended and I couldn't resist) ... like rather than a 25 piece bundle costing OVER the $ 25 coupon make it 20 or 15 per bundle ... I think if they find the right mix of larger box size, bundle count, etc. demand and volume would increase and we won't have to hear the "its not in demand" reply. which sadly is what I heard last time around ...

I have a different request today!!! (But please don't forget that we are losing sales because buyers can't request invoice/totals for too many reasons).
When sending a message to a buyer you can only attach image formats, please consider adding PDF to the allowed file types. When shipping labels are created, both on eBay and through 3rd party vendors they save as PDF files. Sending a screen shot usually results in an unusable label.
If there is a concern about the amount of information restrict the file size to a reasonable amount.
I would like to have the information go through eBay messaging so I have PROOF that I have supplied a label. Currently I'm unable to do that.
Thanks!
Hi @dtexley3, the PDF format is unlikely to be added due to security concerns, but I do have an alternative to suggest; you can send the buyer a screenshot of the the label either through eBay messaging or directly in a return request by attaching the photo to the case. This allows eBay to review the details as needed and your buyer can simply print out and adhere the label to the box.

I looked at the link for "Combined Shipping" and it is not helpful.
It says a bunch of different ways you could give a shipping discount,
but not word one on HOW to do it. The HOW is what we need!

To be clear, links to outside websites are considered a violation of our policy. As with any seller, we do allow for an appropriate amount of time for changes to be made. For some sellers this could be a few days and for others it would be reasonable to allow for a few weeks if they have thousands of listings or more that need to be reviewed.
All righty. I'll store my sample list for now and pull it out in a month or so to see where we stand. It does appear to be a template issue, and they've got some third-party outfit managing those. It's trivial to do a grep or other text search to find every template in their collection that will need updating to remove the links, and after that some busywork will be required to actually fix them, but the key is to correct the templates themselves and not just the numerous listings generated from them, so we'll see how fast they will come around. Thanks...

Hi @rosevelyn, the selection of shipping supplies has evolved as we've seen which sizes in demand. As we've determined which sizes were cost prohibitive and in low demand, we made the decision to discontinue them. We don't have plans to add specific sizes right now, but we'll continue monitoring feedback going forward.

We need to get this USPS tracking problem fixed ASAP. It makes no sense to continue worrying buyers with incorrect tracking information and creating needless hassle and INR cases for sellers just because of a simple technical error.
Correct me if I'm out of date on this, but one related technical glitch on the eBay site that's aggravated by this is the less-than-skillful handling of the tracking data. If you click on a tracking number (such as in your Purchase History listing) to see the tracking progress of your package, the popup history that's displayed will only show tracking entries up to the point that a "DELIVERED" status is found, and it does not seem to look for or display any entries beyond that point.
This means that if the package was scanned by mistake as Delivered instead of Accepted at the outset, later scans showing normal progress will not appear in eBay's tracking display. The only way to see that the package was not really "Delivered" in the seller's hometown is to go to usps.com and view the tracking there. Any eBay buyers who take the eBay display (which shows nothing but a Delivered status in the wrong town) as accurate will instead promptly freak out and file Item Not Received disputes.
The solution is to do a much better job of parsing the tracking data that the eBay page obtains from usps.com for the selected tracking number. It needs to see whether there are any later entries in the scan history beyond the "Delivered" scan, and if so, whether that indicates that the package is still en route and the "Delivered" scan is in error. This is especially likely if the ZIP code of the "Delivered" scan matches the "Ship from ZIP" code of the Shipping label that was printed, or the ZIP code of the seller.
Thanks for the thoughtful breakdown @a_c_green - I know that we want to make sure that all the updated information is made viewable, even if there's an accidental delivery scan. I haven't seen many instances of this happening lately, but I'll look for some examples and send them to the shipping team. Thanks!

Problem: USPS page often doesn't show item scan for one or more days after it has been scanned by our local post office. This has happened to about 1 of 3 packages, so it isn't a generic problem with the way they are scanned...that's always the same.
Sometimes, the original acceptance scan NEVER shows up. The first entry under USPS tracking is when it arrives at a sorting station.
Our local post office is aware of the problem, and have started posting "USPS is in possession of this item" to the USPS site, to ensure that credit is given for on-time shipping. But this shouldn't be necessary.
Can anything be done to deal with this on eBay's side? Can eBay somehow "encourage" USPS to be more prompt in acknowledging when items enter the system?
Alternatively, knowing this is a problem, can eBay be a little more friendly about acknowledging proof of on-time shipping, and removing undeserved late shipping dings?
Hi @vrykalak, if your local USPS location is not properly recording acceptance scans and communicating this information with eBay and they have been unable to resolve the issue on their own, I recommend you email Griff@eBay.com with the details and contact information for your local Postal Office so we can contact them and work on improving reliability. Additionally, if you contact Customer Service with proof of on time shipping we are happy to review and reinstate lost Top Rated status related to these transactions. While we do not currently have a process of removing these, we can ensure they are not held against you as a part of your Seller Performance review if needed.

Just want to mention there is another thread started, probably on Selling, about items being relisted and sold without the seller relisting them.
They were advised to come to Chat but I have not seen them here as yet.

This is one of the main issues I have with the eBay tracking history. As soon as a Delivered scan is seen, no additional scans are added. So when a package is "delivered" to the wrong address and caught by either the driver, the resident or forwarding we don't see it going back into the system and being routed correctly. Also when the correct delivery occurs, it frequently repeats any incorrect information from the original delivery. Showing all tracking information, regardless of the "delivered" scan would solve this.

@Anonymous
I think perhaps you missed my point.
Maybe some sort of tutorial for someone listing their first item(s) for sale?
*I* don't need the links you so kindly included. I do this five days a week, every week, and have for years. And while some new sellers will not voluntarily go looking for information if they don't have to, there are some who will inevitably try - only to be caught up in the "where the heck do I find X?!?!???" mess that is the new format of eBay (where it's hard to even find the stinkin' site map).

Also, on a positive note, I bought a vintage glass perfume atomizer that came fast, well packed & perfect. I love it! I believe that seller is in the community & I want to say thank you! I had to post the pic of this lovely item. The other vintage items in the pic belonged to my father in law.

Try again, most of the time sending a screen shot results in the buyer reporting the label will not print ledgibly.
