Will someone please RESPOND rather than just shutting off a thread?

I've posted about four threads on "community", they just get SHUT DOWN with no response.

I'm fed up not being able to do messages; I don't know how the new system works, I'm handicapped and not interested in struggling to make it work.  I read conversations on other sites screaming against especially messaging and saying "ebay staff consider all complaints NOISE and ignore them"--what possible reason is there to refuse to just restore the simple useful email-grid format that we enjoyed for 25-30 years?

I'm fed up trying to view "Purchase History" and "Watch List" and other panels, having to wade through all sorts of ADS that I didn't ask for.  "SIMILAR PICKS"--there is a button for "view similar", if I wanted to see similar I would click the button.  I have to refresh the page with one hand on the WIFI switch trying to shut it off at just the right moment to show the simple pages without "SIMILAR", or "FREQUENTLY-BOUGHT-TOGETHER".  The "escape" key is somewhat functional, but I often have to try 5-6 times to get just the right moment.

I'm fed up trying to view an item (or "WATCH LIST"), only to have the screen seized, darkened, and a popup "SAVE $5 IN THE APP"--my ten dollar per month flip cell phone doesn't DO apps, and even if it did I wouldn't want every blasted page seized "SAVE $5".

I'm fed up having to click LINKS; on purchase-history try to see "TRACKING" and it no longer shows the tracking, it shows four movements then forces me to look for and click "SEE MORE"--what possible reason is there to not just show the stupid tracking like it used to?  If I want to see an ended item, why do I have to scan the page "THIS-HAS-ENDED-BUT-WE-FOUND-SIMILAR" to find the button "SHOW THE STUPID ITEM I ASKED FOR!!!!!" --- why do I have to ask more than once?

Why can't I opt out of "YOU-MAY-ALSO-LIKE", and "PICKS-FOR-YOU", and the two purchase completion popups "HOW-ABOUT-THIS-TURNIP-TWADDLER---CLICK-PAY-AND-ITS-YOURS!"

Someone in ebay heirarchy thinks it's PROFITABLE to have fifty sales people outside of our doors screaming "BUY-THIS!  BUY THIS!  BUY THIS!" --- which is what "found-similar", and "frequently-bought-together", and "picks-for-you", and "you-may-also-like" do.  We are the customers, the revenue source for ebay---why can't we have it like we want, better as it used to be?  Put it back.

Will someone please tell us, the customers (per Business 101 we customers ARE THE BOSS), how we can have ebay the way we want, the way it used to be?  No don't say "Just stop using ebay", the other sites (like Yahoo Auctions) have been run out of business.

Instead of just closing a thread with further "nasty belligerent attitude" (ignoring valid complaints calling them "NOISE"), please advise what RECOURSE we have against "staff nasty belligerent attitude"???

Re: Will someone please RESPOND rather than just shutting off a thread?

Ok, I'll answer. I run an ad blocker and while I see the app. pop-up I go through my purchase history and watchlist (from the same drop down window, not the one next to it) without any pop-ups. I see "view similar" and "picks for you" but not in pop-ups that get in my way.

I don't know if it will work that way for you. I use AdBlock (free).

Hope that will be of some help to you.

Messages are no longer formatted like emails; they are formatted like messages. It operates the same way a chat window does. Ex: when you contact customer service here on eBay using the chat option, and when you send a text message on your phone, you type in the space at the bottom, not higher up where messages are displayed.

At the bottom of the message window, the box that says 'send message' is where you click to start typing. I'm hoping eBay will update that 'send message' text to something more instructive in the near future, like 'compose message', and eliminate some of the confusion stemming from the crowd that is not familiar with text message / chat format.

The photo landscape icon on the left is for attaching photos. The paper airplane icon on the right is for sending the message.

It used to be 2 scans. eBay expanded it to 4 scans based on feedback from users.

There's no "reply" button, there was when I started each thread; am I missing it?  (Thank you.)

A lot of buyers dislike 'similar picks' and other items that are not part of our purchase history or watch list appearing on the page.

Common sense deduction: eBay adds these things because it results in more sales. Not every buyer has a problem with it and the increase in revenue is enough to outweigh the complaints from those who don't want to see it.

If you're seeing 3rd party ads (not eBay sponsored listings) you can turn those off by using an ad blocker.

@i_wunder

A suggestion: some users come to the community boards to ask questions. Those questions typically get answered, even if the answer is not always what the user necessarily wants to hear.

Some users come to the boards to rant or vent. If a question seems rhetorical or sarcastic, or appears to be just a thinly-veiled demand in the form of a question, or is buried in a wall of text with lots of repeated punctuation (???!!!!), many folks who might be in position to offer a suggestion or two may choose to move on to the next thread instead, rather than disturb someone who is more interested in blowing off steam than in getting useful suggestions.

Incidentally, many users seem to be having issues with the new eBay message inbox. If you have your communication preferences set to forward eBay messages from members to your email, then you can at least read and respond to messages from members directly via email by replying to those emails without having to deal with the eBay message inbox at all.

Your other threads are still active and unlocked. Most were posted on the Ask A Mentor forum where only the original poster (you) and the Community Mentors are able to respond.

Click your avatar on the top right, then click "see profile" and you'll find all of your active posts.

On a final note: you seem incredibly upset. That's not good for your health. I suggest deep breathing and whatever method will work for you to calm down, then re-approach these discussions when you're not seeing red. You'll have more productive conversations that way and learn what options are available for dealing with the site features you don't like.

Re: Will someone please RESPOND rather than just shutting off a thread?

I  use Ublock Origin, I still get the popups.  And when I complete an auction (THANK YOU FOR YOUR ORDER), I try to quickly page back before the screen is seized with two popups, "HOW-ABOUT-THIS-TURNIP-TWADLER---CLICK-PAY-AND-ITS-YOURS!"

That is, if I'm ALLOWED to pay; twenty five to thirty years, I like to do my own payments thank you.  Obviously I'm doing something right with 1500+ perfect feedbacks.  If someone doesn't like to pay, cancel their account.

But ebay doesn't like to cancel seller accounts; I get deliveries from Amazon trucks, and I realize sellers are just listing items from other sites with a markup (stealing their pictures), having the other site ship to the unsuspecting ebay buyer and pocketing the difference.  The holographic Christmas paper last Fall came from there.  I just received a $10 baseball cap that arrived with an Aliexpress label, it sells there for 99¢ and free shipping.  I tried to report the seller, the "report-seller" doesn't work.  I reported the auction, "WE LOOKED INTO YOUR REPORT AND FOUND NO VIOLATION OF OUR POLICIES".  Every report gets the same dismissal.  Seller is still selling the cap, but now he's charging $15, and pocketing $14 for no effort--legally it's fraud.  Great scam, no effort, no overhead, just a few computer clicks and ebayers send you money (even if you object to the other sites' politics).

Okay, fraud is fine on ebay, just please tell me how to have simple pages without every other line "SIMILAR PICKS" or "FREQUENTLY-BOUGHT-TOGETHER".  I work around the SEE-MORE tracking link, I don't use tracking here I have a second party site display a simple AND COMPLETE tracking page with all movements.

(Sigh.....)

Re: Will someone please RESPOND rather than just shutting off a thread?

You may have gone to considerable trouble for me, I appreciate you.

The browser has a simple "search" function, I can search for words like ITEM NAMES.  But the search doesn't work for the new format.  I can't simply scan the whole page and find what I'm looking for.

>Messages are no longer formatted like emails;

>they are formatted like messages.

>It operates the same way a chat window does.

I'm aware of that -- I don't like the new format, can't find things, takes a lot more time for the things I CAN still do.

The question remains--why can't we have it like we want?  It's just a block of HTML code (thankfully they still ALLOW the "show-classic-view" on feedbacks)?  Everyone I've talked to hates the new format.

Are we here for staff, or are they here for us?  Why do we have to have changes crammed down our throats whether we like them or not?  What's the rationale to impose "SEE MORE" link on tracking, to impose "THIS-HAS-ENDED-BUT-WE-FOUND-SIMILAR", to trash the messages and DISREGARD customer complaints?  What happened to "the customer is always right", "give the customer what he wants", "the customer is the boss", "if it ain't broke don't fix it", and so on?

?:-/

For a long time two message formats were available, we had the option to keep "classic" if we wanted.  What benefit was there to force changeover, and why refuse complaints?  Just put it back, we liked it for years (decades), why the belligerence?

If you want to search messages, use the search bar on the messages screen, not your browser's search. Currently it will only search messages between members and not messages from eBay (I'm hoping eBay will change that).

I think the new format needs a few tweaks, but generally I prefer it. eBay can't please everybody.

Dual-formats were available while the new format was being built. Now it's formally launched and the old format is gone for good. It's not cost effective for eBay to maintain 2 completely different systems and I don't want my seller fees (which means item prices for buyers) to skyrocket over something like unnecessarily maintaining 2 message systems.

eBay is not "refusing complaints" - they have implemented a lot of changes to the new format based on user feedback and I believe they will continue on this path for a while.

Re: Will someone please RESPOND rather than just shutting off a thread?

>Currently it will only search messages between members and

It's still not as easy and useful as it was.  I asked "What can we do?"

The answer appears to be, "NOTHING."  Staff will keep adding links and links (what possible sanity is the SEE-MORE link when we try to see tracking?), all complaints are just viewed as "NOISE" and ignored.  They don't care that I have an artificial disk in my back and a few seconds delay here and a few seconds there add up to considerable time and pain.

They believe "FREQUENTLY BOUGHT TOGETHER", and "SIMILAR ITEMS", and "YOU MAY ALSO LIKE", and "PICKS FOR YOU", and "HOW-ABOUT-THIS-TURNIP-TWADDOLER--CLICK-PAY-AND-ITS-YOURS" --- all  create MORE MONEY.  We can get rid of some actual ads with an ad blocker (if you're gonna charge fees don't run ads, if you run ads don't charge fees), but nothing can be done about pages like PURCHASE HISTORY and WATCH LIST having every other row larger with "SIMILAR ITEMS" that we didn't want or ask for.

POPUP--SAVE $5 IN THE APP!

I can't view ended items; some of them just won't display, some show a useless screen and I have to search for the LINK "show details".  And EVERY ended item has a row of "YOU-MAY-ALSO-LIKE" and the item drops down out of view; then ANOTHER row of "also-like", I have to scroll and scroll.  I used to stop it with the "ESCAPE" button, but now it loads two rows of gray boxes anyway (and the item drops down two pages), and images don't work because I didn't let it load far enough.  If I wanted to see "similar items" I would hvae ASKED for "similar items"!

And it's not just the webpages; I'm trying to find some Halloween glow-in-the-dark shorts (night scene with glowing moon, trees with glow-eyes owls and bats) that one of my seven burglars stole---but my "favorite searches" return WOMEN'S APPAREL (nothing about Halloween, nothing about Glow-in-dark), homosexual party wear with chest harness for leather bondage leash (that shows up often, nothing Halloween or Glow-In-dark), and many other "MATCHES" that I have to wade through filling my email that have nothing to do with what I wanted (because they're using AI and oh-hey well we found SHORTS!).  I look for a laser film hologram of an F-15 jet, my email gets filled with yards of cloth fabric PRINTED WITH AIRPLANES.  I look for a Franklin Bookman Parallel Bible (electronic device which accepts plug-in modules, the "parallel" has both KJB and NIV), I get paper BASEBALL CARDS that have the word "Franklin" but nothing to do with electronic device or Bible or Bookman-expandable-modules.  Match after match of "favorite items" that have nothing to do with what I asked for.  It didn't used to be like this, it was much faster and more useful.

>(I'm hoping eBay will change that).

Nope report after report is ignored, they WILL CHANGE NOTHING (except to keep adding links and links and making it more bloated and useless).  Chinese sellers posing as American and defeating the "SEARCH US ONLY" --- They may rent an American warehouse but items still are shipped from China --- I report them, every time "WE LOOKED INTO YOUR REPORT AND FOUND NO VIOLATION".  Then remove the stupid US-ONLY button!

Answer seems to be, NO THERE'S NOTHING USERS CAN DO to have it work like they want, even like it was just a few years ago.  "Put it back?"  Ignored.

The question remains--how do we (the mere peasant-CUSTOMERS who are actually paying their salaries) compel them to get rid of all the bloated garbage we don't want but are forced to wade through?  Why can't we just have it as we want, as it used to be?

I guess threads here are just another waste of time, they just ignore "more NOISE".  If we don't like it go somewhere else, except there isn't anywhere else.

I gotta go lay down, my back is really aching from all the wasted time sitting here.

It's just HTML code, it doesn't require buying gas every few miles.  If I suddenly had a few extra million, I'd hire a software house to write a browser plugin to reformat the display and get messages back into "classic view".  And I woujldn't have to keep paying money to "maintain" the browser plugin, browser plugins don't require maintenance.

I'm sorry, that's not credible--I look at other discussion sites and there are PAGES of complaints, most saying "ebay just ignores complaints", and "complaints are called NOISE and ignored".  I have to believe most people DO NOT WANT the changes (the biggest complaint is about messaging).

I've found NO one that likes pages bogged down with row after row of:

YOU-MAY-ALSO-LIKE

SIMILAR-ITEMS

FREQUENTLY-BOUGHT-TOGETHER

THIS-HAS-ENDED-BUT-WE-FOUND-SIMILAR

Every one  of these is avialable by a LINK, if we don't click on the link then we don't want to  see them.  Someone in ebay hierarchy believes swamping pages with YOU-MAY-ALSO-LIKE and popups leads to more SALES.  Not true, it just makes us hit "escape" or turn off the WIFI struggling to defeat the SPAM.
