WTH is wrong with the Ebay "message system" not working/down?

Hi all.  This has been happening to me for several days now--at first I thought it may have been just me or my account, but (on the rare occasions when they ARE able to get the messages) I've had several sellers (and counting) comment about the "message system" at Ebay not working, and now I'm seeing threads here about it (of which most are LOCKED now!)   Additionally, I no longer get any emails even though "Send a copy to my personal email address" is always checked, and the people to whom I'm sending messages rarely get them!  I even tried a search for that phrase and nothing!  I've sent dozens of emails to sellers with no replies so they obviously are not getting them!  Now I'm not even getting what I send in my "Sent" folder so I don't even have a frickin' record anymore of what I send!  Ebay hasn't mentioned a frickin' thing about it here at the message boards, not on their "Announcements" page, NOR at their FaceBook page!  This is MOST SERIOUS because this is SERIOUSLY screwing up buys, sales, AND auctions!  (As others have mentioned) don't let them feed you any of their **bleep** about "nothing is wrong" or "...it's working now"!  https://community.ebay.com/t5/Technical-Issues/email-check-box-quot-send-a-copy-to-my-personal-email... .  They're even LOCKING THREADS about it apparently trying to cover it up: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Messages-are-not-working/m-p/26926152/thread-id/28052, "Due to the length of time that has passed since this thread began, we have locked it from future replies", even though there were 3 additional replies in the last few days!!  No doubt they'll soon COMPLETELY DELETE these threads!  So HTH are we supposed to tell them that this is problem is escalating??  (Something else that's screwed up here; I can't add any frickin' "Tags"!  Look at this non sequitur garbage: "The message tags contain a, which is not permitted in this community. Please remove this content before sending your post."   WTH??  "a" what??  Comma??  There's SUPPOSED to be commas in the tags!)

If you are copying and pasting snippets of text or links into your message, it is possible that you are picking up extra formatting along with the text. Typically the message system will strip that formatting out for you without making any visible changes (or just minor formatting changes), so if you get that message, you can just do a quick scan to make sure that nothing important has been lost and hit submit again.

Alternatively, to avoid getting that message, you can try pasting your excerpt into a text field (a search box in your browser address bar is handy if the excerpt is not too long), then double clicking on it to select it again and then copy and paste it into your message from there. That should strip out any non-text characters for you.

Thanks for noticing.  Actually I often use "Metapad" (sort of like NotePad) for any copying/pasting and it's plain text!  So there's no 'formatting' involved there, except when links are involved because unlike NotePad MP has clickable links.  So maybe that's it, or it might be when I copy a member's username from somewhere and paste it into my posts.  But I can't remember now if this happens when I do those things.  (We'll see if it happens again this time.......EDIT: No it did not).  Thanks.

I’m having tons of problems with eBays messages on the app too. They aren’t showing up as sent and I’m not getting received messages in my inbox. They are coming to my regular email though.

FIX THIS EBAY ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER A MONTH NOW!!

Did a eBay server support rep use the servers built in coffee cup holder to hold their coffee and accidentally spill coffee on the server?

Up until today the ebay msg system has been working normally for me.   But this morning I received a new message from a buyer that showed up on my email (using my phone) phone - and when I tried to respond it just displayed a blank screen. When I check my ebay account on my computer there was no new message and none from this buyer.  So that was weird.  

Something does seems to be going on with the email.    Over the many years my experience with ebay has been that they rarely (if ever) explain or notify us when there is a problem. They are very much aware of problems, and ARE working on them, but they NEVER admit it.  And they never will.   But at least we have these forums so that we can find out what's going on and not think that we're going crazy.

I can't make out your image because it's too small, but at any rate I know/recognize the area and while that may have been the problem in your case, it wasn't for me nor the others than posted about this problem.  They have always been set to "Real-time".  I don't know what you mean by: ".....and even ebay tech couldnt help apart from escalate."

Having the same problem this morning in that I didn't receive the normal eBay email to inform me that an item had sold.  Also didn't receive the normal PayPal push notification to my mobile phone to indicate that payment had been received in that account... even though the payment was received.

When I looked at my notification / communication preferences... I found that under "Seller Activity"... the setting for "Item Sold" had been changed from "Real Time" to "None"; even though I didn't make that change.

After talking with Customer Support, I changed it back to "Real Time" and the rep. noted that she didn't see an open ticket reporting this as a recurring problem.  Not sure if it's just a glitch... or if it will happen again.  I had a similar problem yesterday when I didn't receive notification in regard to a case opened for non-delivery of an item... even though the item was shipped through eBay Global Shipping and had already been delivered earlier in the day.  Seems like the mysteries are becoming a trend.  We'll see how it goes today.

Just to confirm... the message system is now working for me... though both the eBay and PayPal notifications didn't arrive until 2 hours after the sale occurred. Still... at least the notices did finally arrive. Hopefully, that will return to the "real-time" communication that is needed... and has normally been provided for past sales.
