How to extract item numbers from a csv file.
An outline.
1) Open the .csv file,
2) Delete all of the columns excpt for the item number column,
3) Save the file as a .txt file,
4) Open the file with NotePad,
5) Copy the item number to the Windows clipboard
6) Paste into the eBay selection page for Volume Pricing.
Ok, each step. This is not hard at all. Just follow these steps.
(1) Double click on the .csv filename in your download directory. This will open the file in Excel.
(2) Click on the Letters above each column (A, B, C, etc) and then click on Delete>Delete sheet columns. This will be on the Home ribbon (the top area with options, to the right). Do this for all columns, except the item number column. Note, if you hold down your CTRL key, you can select multiple columns at one time.
Note here that you must change the item number to a whole number with no decimal zeros. Excel's default is exponential notation for large numbers. The volume pricing tool will not accept that. Click on the Item number heading (should be A). Then click on the box, that says 'General', in the format section of the top ribbon. Click on 'Number' from the dropdown box. Now click twice on the even smaller icon underneath, with zeros and the right pointing arrow (this gets rid of the decimal zeros).
(3) Now click on 'File', wait a second or two, then click on 'Save as' on the left hand side. You will see something like this on the main part of the screen...
The top line will have your download folder name. Leave this
Click on the first box to type in a filename you can remember, or just leave it as the original
Click on the small down arrow, and then, in the dropdown box that appears, click on 'Text (MS-DOS)(*.txt)'
Now click the 'Save' button.
You will return to the spreadsheet. You can exit Excel. You are done with it.
(4) Now find the file in your download folder with the .TXT extension, that you created above, and double click on it. It will open in NotePad.
(5) Select the entire file by pressing CNTL-A on your keyboard. Now press CNTL-C, to copy the file to the Windows Clipboard. You can exit NotePad. You are done with it.
(6) Finally, go to the eBay Volume pricing page (direct link - https://www.ebay.com/sh/mkt/promotionmanager/volumepricing).
Click on the Text box and press CNTL-V. This will paste the item number(s) into the box. Scroll to the top of the list and delete any column header, such as ItemID or Item number, leaving only the numbers. Make sure to click on the radio button over the box that says 'Item ID'. Select your other options.
That is it.
