Hello!
I just sold my first pair of sneakers that will go through the eBay authentication program. While this is exciting due to no fees, I'm worried about my liability as a seller. When I send the sneakers to eBay and they authenticate them, am I still liable if the item is lost in transit when being sent from the authentication center to the buyer? Does eBay assume the liability? I insure all packages I send out for their full value so there's never any risk for me but I'm certain eBay wouldn't insure their packages. Please let me know what the case is. Thank you!

Congrats on your sneaker sale. This is all it says under the sneaker authentication FAQ- If the item passes inspection, it will be shipped to the buyer with 2 day secure delivery, including signature confirmation.
The presumption would be that yes eBay would assume the liability as they do with the GSP. Under that program a seller is only responsible for delivery to Erlanger than it's out of their hands. No reason not to believe it's any different based on what the FAQ says. Best of luck to you....

@camdekaminsk-0 Here's more from the sneakers authentication page:
9. Lost, Damaged, or Items Not Delivered.
Items that are lost or damaged during the Authenticity Guarantee process are protected by eBay’s Money Back Guarantee, subject to the eMBG guidelines.
So it doesn't actually state that you will be covered if item lost from authentication center to buyer as it does under GSP. It's worded as if it does but not really saying that. However keep in mind lost packages are very rare. They do ship them via 2 day with sig conf so the threat is more of buyer remorse than undelivered. You should be fine. Best of luck to you....

I've had 7 pairs of sneakers go to the authentication service but only 6 have made it to the buyer. I print shipping labels using eBay so I never provide an address the shipment. The pair that didn't make it was received by the authentication service a couple of days after sending them but the status was never updated (see attached).
I tried contacting the buyer several times over the weeks that followed but it's not allowed for transactions that involve authentication. I don't remember the exact message but contacting the buyer is denied at the time you attempt to send the message. The buyer has since filed a payment dispute and the ruling was made in buyer's favor. I'm now out hundreds of dollars and am trying to appeal the decision. This is completely ridiculous! I don't see how I can be held liable but that's the situation I find myself in.

Yes, they did. I don't remember the exact details of what I had to do but I recall needing to make several calls, explain the situation multiple times to different people and after some time (maybe a few weeks) I did eventually get my money back. I felt it could have gone either way depending on how eBay would rule. If the ruling went against me, It would have been completely in my right to be upset. It's super disturbing that I had to even state my case, the shipment facts alone were enough for eBay to see. I haven't sold any shoes here since and I've done it as a hobby since 2000!

I'm in the same situation. I sold a $950 Tom Ford handbag. I have delivery and signature confirmation that it arrived at the Authentication Center. He tell me they "never received it and to file a claim with the post office." I contacted the BBB. It seems like fraud and inside job of theft. I will be closing my Ebay account as soon as I determine if I'm getting pain (or not).
