Seller hub quick filters

I recently have found several listings with corrupted images or missing images. I usually use a standard format for taking the images for the items I sell. Usually  There will be 11 images for most of the items I list so while reviewing item specifics I have caught several listings that had what appeared to be less than the normal amount of images. When I went to my back up folder I found these items were missing images. I was able to delete the current images and upload the full selection.

Rather than have to manually go through each of my 400 to 600 listings it would be nice to be able to log the number of listings used when creating a listing. So a quick filter could be used in the seller hub to identify listings that need to be revised due to images being lost or corrupted. Obviously if there are corrupted images the filter would point out the listings that need to be worked on.

For missing images the filter could check the current number of listings used and compare it to the number of images used at the time the listing was created. Then if the number of current listings is less than the number at the time of creation the quick filter could tell users which listings need attention.

Based off of what I have seen I suspect at some point the images may be getting corrupted. Then when the GTC listing relists the corrupted file gets tossed out by your system. Currently you only have a quick filter for when listings images fall bellow the recommended amount of images. This is only help full if most or all of the images are lost. a seller who primarily sells used items I rely on the images to convey issues. edit images and use arrows or circles to point out visible issues  and in the description I usually mention these issues and what images should be reviewed to see the issues.

If the number of images change this could cause the buyer to look at the wrong image and possibly not see the image pointing to the damage if it is no longer in the listings images. This could end up being a return issue with a buyer due to issues out of the sellers control.

Hi @3eyedfishcatcher, this sounds like there might be a technical issue to investigate, as photos shouldn't disappear or become corrupted. If you can share some examples here (item numbers and/or screenshots) I will be happy to pass this along to the appropriate team. Additionally, I've moved this post to our Technical Issues board as the issue described here is better discussed on this board than on the Seller Update board.

I did not save any examples as image issues have to be corrected right away to avoid selling issues. It would be nice to have a back up on your end as image related issues are rarely appeared to sellers through the thumbnails on the hub or old selling page. Right now you have ongoing issues with sellers using your partners listing services that when the listings are viewed the images are not displayed and in search results the images are just blacked out or are a generic image from the listing service. This is a real issue and a simple filter to alert sellers of missing pictures or corrupted images is a basic thing you can do on your end rather than take the stance that it would never happen and move the post. This is not a on going technical issue on my end as I said I fixed the issue and have not found more examples. I was merely suggesting a simple quick filter could be used to detect such problems and alert sellers for future updates. Thanks for making the improper decision to move the posting to a technical issue forum rather than leaving it where it was so that other users could weigh in on the idea and higher ups on your end could see the suggestion.

Hi @3eyedfishcatcher, I want to start out by clarifying that this post was moved because the topic you are discussing is unrelated to the Seller Update. Because it is not related to the Seller Update, it could not remain on the Seller Update board. Other members of the Community are still able to weigh in on the idea you are proposing here on the appropriate board, and feedback will be passed along to the appropriate teams. It was not our intention to give you the impression that we do not believe that this is happening or in any way indicate that this "would never happen". We are simply asking for examples so we can investigate this further.

Based on what you have shared, there seems to be an assumption that we are able to see a corrupted or lost image in a listing, and this is not necessarily the case. The filter you are asking for is likely not something we would be able to provide since we do not have the ability to automatically detect every instance of a photo disappearing or becoming corrupt. If something like this were possible, it would certainly be very complex and pose a significant investment to develop. The much simpler and cost effective solution is to identify why some photo issues are occurring in the first place and resolve that issue.

We would very much like to look into the technical issue you are describing if you can give some examples. You've stated that you have seen listings with photos that are not displaying properly, and if you can share the item numbers for those listings we can definitely dig into this with you.

This does happen The easiest example is the GTC missing photos issue from last year. recently I have found listings of my own with missing images. As your phone support will never acknowledge and report issues and the only real fix is to remove and replace the images I fixed the listings of mine that were effected. I would also assume there are more with the issue but as I do not have the time to go through each listing individually I just plan over time to slowly check my items little by little.  Bellow are links to fairly recent post to the technical issue forum from other users who appear to have stumbled upon the issue I recently found. I am merely suggesting a very simple fail safe for such a issue. Seller logs the number of photos used in the listing then if the actual number of images decreases a quick filter alert points to those effected listings.  a basic search for posts about missing photos turns up a very large number of posts so these are not isolated issues.

For the corrupted images I can definitely attest that this issue happens so the blanket response of its not possible is very wrong. While checking item specifics to make sure my listings were up to date I recently found several with corrupted images . In the listing while editing the listing under the phot section several listings had 1 or more images  that instead of having the image there was a red warning symbol and a message that said the image was corrupted. Again as your support does not acknowledge such issues rather than waste time on reporting the issue. Where even if I would be able to get it looked into the only real answer would be to remove the images and reupload them.

I can attest that in the last month finding several posts in here where users that were using listing services posted that their images were corrupt and would not display the actual image in the listing. They were complaining about eBay and their listing service pointing the blame at each other and not offering any real fix. This issue seams to be compounded by the thumb nails in the seller hub / manage active listings were not effected so their fist issue was going through each listing to see if they were effected. Then remove alll images and replace the images.

After I ship items I send a confirmation message to my buyers. After the message is sent I browse the similar item suggestions to see if there is anything interesting. The other week I noticed a item that had a solid black image. I clicked it and in the listing the images were completely black. Then when I went to view the sellers other items I noticed several more listings with the same issue. I sent the seller a heads up of what I had noticed. He messaged me back letting me know both his listing service and eBay were aware of the issue but other than finger pointing had not been able to suggest a clear answer as to how to fix the issue. I had encountered something similar in the last few weeks. I suggested he remove the images from the listings and reload them. He then informed me of his issue with the thumb nails in the seller hub not indicating what issues were effected. I then suggested he go to his profile page and view the items he had for sale in a private window so he would be able to see the listings as a buyer would. This was what he needed as he could not rely on the hub to point to the effected listings. The fallowing day he had found and fixed 66 listings out of his total 6000 listings.

So as your servers can detect corrupted images a simple quick filter in the hub would allow sellers to identify and fix these issues. I do not really want to dig through the old posts but a few weeks ago there were at least 4 to 6 posts in the top of the technical issue section as the issue was active and users replying kept pushing those posts to the top. they were all from he same listing service and I think the user in the UK I had spoke to was using the same service. I also clearly remember this being a ongoing issue with a different listing service called acutivia or something like that I believe the company I am thinking of is one of your partners  promoted in the subscriber discount section I just do not want to waste more time looking up the correct spelling of their name. So this does happen and as the only real fix is to remove and replace the images a simple tool to point the sellers to the effected listings would save a large amount of time. They would be able to just do and replace the effected images.

Listing mirror is another listing service that I regularly see listings from sellers with all of their images missing and replaced with some generic thumb nail with their listing service name. While at least the listing service is replacing the corrupted images I do not know if using a generic thumb nail to replace the images lost that says their companies name is a good advertisement of their service.

So This morning I found the impossible. 1 of my listings had a corrupted image. As your support will not acknowledge this as a possibility I will not waste my time hopping eBay will look into it. I just simply took a screen shoot showing your system can see there is a issue with the image file. I have since removed and replaced the images for the listing. There is no reason why you can not run a report from your image servers and notify users with the listing information so they can fix the issue by restoring from their back ups on the users end.

Hi @3eyedfishcatcher, I need to clear up some confusion and reiterate again that nobody is replying to your messages and saying that this does not happen. I have responded multiple times to address your concerns and ask for examples, and in no way have meant to imply that anyone doubts this happens. We know that photos can become corrupted or disappear, and we just needed the examples you have provided to investigate this further. If you could clarify what I said in my earlier responses that made you think I was dismissing this issue or telling you it does not happen, I will be happy to clear up any remaining confusion or adjust the way I am responding so there is no further confusion.

Hi @3eyedfishcatcher, thank you for providing an example! I see now that when you say an image is corrupted you are referring to an image error. This is something I can pass this information along to the appropriate teams for a potential filter to be created that will display a notice for these issues.
