Last night I sent a Second Chance Offer to the second-place bidder in an auction that had just ended, but it never reached him (or me), though eBay shows that it did. The basic details in bulleted form:
- That bidder does accept SCOs. He is a repeat buyer of mine. The Bid History page showed the Second Chance link available for his ID.
- I sent him the SCO just a few minutes after the end of the auction. I did not send an SCO to any other bidder.
- eBay created the SCO listing as usual, and shows it in my list of Active listings.
- A blue banner line in the listing itself states that it was sent to my bidder's ID:
- I did not receive the usual copy of the SCO that goes to the bidder.
- He did not receive the SCO and had no idea that one had been sent to him last night.
We exchanged messages this morning after I noticed that my copy of the SCO had never shown up (I did check my Spam folder), and he confirmed that he had not received it either. I sent him a direct link to the SCO listing manually so that he could copy-and-paste the link into his browser.
I've sent out occasional SCOs in the past where it seemed odd that I would hear nothing at all from the bidder after all the bidding that had occurred, and (in particular) saw zero views of the SCO listing, but never thought that it was not actually being delivered. I have no idea how to test for this bug again, but will need to watch more closely in future.
