Saved search emails show wrong number of new items "12 NEW!"

I saved a search and signed up for daily email notifications. The daily emails are always entitled "...: 12 NEW!", even though there are much more than just 12 new listings.

For example, even if hundreds of new items were actually listed over the last day, the email I receive will have the subject line:
"vintage pyrex: 12 NEW!"

Just realized the same is happening to me.  Anyone?
