Hi all
I'm trying to replace the complete description in about 100 of my listings, with a new cover-all description. The descriptions currently vary a little bit so "find and replace" will be a hit or miss.
I remember seeing a trick where you input <<-ALL>> into the FIND field to replace everything, but that doesn't work for me.
Any tips or ideas?
Many thanks

eBay's Find and Replace feature in their Bulk Edit And Relist (BEAR) tool works only when there is an exact match in the HTML source of your text. That means you must look at the HTML of your listings and find that exact HTML string to use in BEAR. Sometimes what looks like exactly matching text can be seen in HTML view to have various HTML codes or spaces that don't match from one listing to the next. eBay's BEAR is case-insensitive, so it will be able to match different capitalizations, but the mismatch of inserted characters and codes is what will make that tool fail. BEAR can be found through Seller Hub and Selling Manager.
The <<-ALL>> trick belongs to a third-party bulk editing tool called the Active Content Editor.

The Active Content Editor can use (regex) wildcards and Start and End limits to replace segments of text and code that may differ within those limits. It also has the ability to remove an entire block of code from the beginning <<FROM-START>> to some marker, or from some marker to the end <<TO-END>>. And of course, the <<-ALL>> feature will remove the entire description and allow replacement with new HTML code.
The Active Content Editor will collect and modify all listing descriptions in bulk, but will not change the actual listings. Instead, it will create a CSV file that can be uploaded to eBay's File Exchange, which will then apply those edited descriptions to the actual listings.
For a bulk replacement of your entire description, you don't need to use a find/replace tool. Instead, you can use eBay's File Exchange to upload a new description and it will overwrite the old description. While there is a learning curve to creating new listings through File Exchange, the revision of an existing listing is quite a bit simpler. I invite you to visit the Tools and Apps forum to begin a discussion on a File Exchange revision file. I think that may be your simplest option.

Did find and replace work at all? I tried a couple of weeks ago with no success.

Hi
I just tried a basic find and replace on 2 listings and can confirm it is working.
So I tried the <<-ALL>> trick again and that still doesn't work.

Wow what an amazing reply. Thank you very much.
I do in fact use file exchange to list all my items. I have previously tried using it to bulk replace the descriptions but ran into problems. before persevering with file exchange, I wanted to investigate other methods, which is what lead me here.
I will crack on with file exchange and have a look at the active content editor.
Thanks again
