Relisting items gives random views on the items from the 1st seconds

The items that i am relisting for the past two weeks are auto generating views from the first seconds. Some might say that might be actual views but i really doubt it as i tried altering the descriptions and item specifics on purpose and whatever i put the items are still getting views and sometimes a lot in just a few seconds. I relisted an oil painting that finished with 1 view in a month and it got 5 in under 10 seconds with quite high price and very specific description. Therefore no one can tell me that suddenly all the world became art lovers...I relisted 8 batches of an average of 15 listings in the past 2 weeks with the listing tool and on all of them i spotted the same behavior.

This looks to me as another glitch that came to surface with the release of GTC (not coincidence). These are not actual views as the traffic reports are showing most probably the truth, which is poor views for the last 30-35 days...Get your reports and tools working eBay and maybe consider damping the latest changes on listings. This way you won't lose all your small businesses and sellers.

We've always thought that there are initial views by bots that are checking the listings.  At the same time, people can have automatic searches set up that access a listing almost immediately.  I've listed stuff that has sold immediately after listing before I get back to the computer from getting coffee.

After I send a listing live I view it then go to my active listings. There usually is 1 or 2 views but if I do not view the item after listing or relisting a item there are times there are zero views so most likely it is not a bot. There is probably just some person viewing the category and looked at the item. However ebay could still be having employees glance over the listing or bots scan the listings. Really the number of views and watchers do not really matter but a buyer making a bid or clicking the buy now button. Till then it could be a serious buyer or just someone window watching.

That is why I mention that those numbers are not trustworthy as they are in conflict with traffic reports. 85-90% of the views on the listings are dummy. When traffic reports are available for previous month, I always check the listing page views and compare with my records from the daily listing views that I see. That is where I get my percentage of dummy views. There just can’t suddenly be so many people interested on things that I have listed for months with minor amount of views and from the first seconds. And by the way, after the initial dummy views, bot searches or whatever we want to call them, I get 0 views for days, even for the whole duration of the listing. This just started happening in March after GTC release. There were not such views and activity before for the last 1 1/2 year that I am trying to sell on eBay.

For me this behavior on listings started mid to end of March. I never had this before and I keep my own statistics. Is definitely bots of some kind but not people as i tested with totally wrong description and item specified on some items and correct on others of a batch. So the bots are just creating views on all kinds listings from the first seconds.

Sales down over 50%. Views way up. Unusually up..like double. Feels like one more glitch or someone is inflating the views to make the stockholders happy.

Thank you for sharing this information. I too have seen this happen to me over the past few days. Some listings are starting with an inaccurate number of actual views. Large number of views within first minute and then no views for hours or even days later on the same items according to Seller Hub and listing counter. There is something wrong as it is not normal. I called eBay support today and was given a reference number to follow up with on Saturday.

I don't think it is anything to worry about.

I don't worry about it. I never trusted the statistics on the site anyway. EBay should just fix their website. This amount of glitches is just embarrassing.
