How can I get my profile icon to fill the circle in the profile info that shows under my listings? I have tried circle-cropping the image and uploading different resolutions from 150x150 to 1900x1900, but I still get a little square image in a large circle.

@wastingtime101 Do another search and then in the upper righthand corner switch from gallery page layout to list and see if the pics don't shrink ... the pic I supplied is my prefered "list" page layout ...
So if they are BIG in the gallery layout but get shrunk in the List layout we are back to .... poor programming.

When I search for knives I get borders like you do, but only in gallery view. They must be doing something. Of course, when it comes to eBay, that usually makes things worse 🙂

@wastingtime101 Let's review .... poor ...... programming. I'm not buying into their comments about how something that looks so bad is intended to look that way.Whether that's just the party line, I don't know. We know the site is full of poor programming and unintended consequences. If intentional design is just an excuse it doesn't change the fact that it's a poor result and a less than desirable user experience. On that I think we agree 100%.
@wastingtime101 You and I and a host of others I am sure agree on this ... all too often we are simply given lip service in hopes that we will go find something else to do ... they are afraid to simply come out and say, "yes, we have to adjust the programming so that images fill the entire field like it does on most other pages." See, now that wasn't so hard was it???

I think they are actively working on it. I have screenshots from 2 days ago with different results.
Right now I see big pics in list view.
Right now I see a mix of big pics and small pics in gallery view, depending on category.
If they're in the process of converting everything to big pics that would be awesome. Whether it's because they finally took all our complaints seriously or because it was initially data from the old version of search integrated into the new version of search (with photo size neglected - entirely possible) and they're finally getting around to fixing it doesn't really matter to me. As long as they're changing it for the better.

My initial theory on the whole thing @mr_lincoln (before we were told it's supposed to be that way):
eBay made some big changes to stores last year and made the pics big - which was great. Shortly after they started converting the search pages. The new version of the search page had that big square, but the pic inside was too small. I thought that when released they forgot the part of the code that increased the photo size (not just the photo space).
I asked the stores team about it and was told it's supposed to be different between store landing page and search.
So now my new theory is maybe they intentionally rolled it out knowing the pics were too small, but they wanted to get it up and running before refining details like that. And I think this is a sound theory.
We've seen the search page change little by little over the past year. They are constantly working on it. I believe they're doing it this way to avoid breaking too many things by pushing out a giant change.
The new search view was initially exclusive to store owners' listings. Then they converted the rest of the site. We've seen changes to profile pages with the same design sense. We've seen bugs where search bars disappeared, then were restored.
If they pushed everything out at once we'd probably have seen worse than just small pics and a missing search bar.
Having worked in corporate, I can tell you they probably have goals they meet each month or quarter. So it was probably on the roadmap to fix picture size down the line, and we're finally at the point where they're actively working on that area.
My two cents.

My list view search results look like this currently.
Seems like they have rolled out the fix for some users, but not others.

@wastingtime101 I would be down for that too as one viable explanation considering we are often pointing out the mistakes when a new (and not improved) page layout (or other programing) rolls out ...
In industry we used to say, "they never have time to do it right, but they always have time to do it over".
Job security ... and there may be more to that then meets the eye ... when layoff time comes around one wants to make sure they are indispensable ...

Yeah, it seems like they are improving things incrementally. I just wish they were honest about it what is and isn't by design.

Sometimes by design and by intention are not the same. I honestly don't even remember if this one was "by design" but it's entirely possible the rep said it was intentional and nothing more. In fact, that's probably likely.
And I agree - if they would just say it's intentional because they're rolling out these design changes in phases but photo size will be addressed down the line it would sit better with us. At least then we'd know eBay didn't intend to leave tiny photos that look weird and question their choices as frequently as we sometimes do.
Inevitably people would ask "when" but even without a date or a vague "most likely next year" we would feel more confident knowing it's a planned change coming our way.

This is the way eBay designed that section of the listing page@taigaevergreens - there is nothing you can do to change it.
So I guess a more accurate response is:
This is intentional on eBay's part and there is nothing you can do to change it. But eBay has been making changes to listings, search and profile pages in phases over the past year and a half, so it's possible you'll see the icon fill out that circle down the line if eBay it's on eBay's design roadmap.

I'd be happy to trade my search results for your bigger store icon 😁
You're absolutely right though, eBay's approach of obfuscation instead of resolving, or at least admitting, the issue is...frustrating, to put it mildly.

"We know about the issue but don't have an ETA on a fix" would have been a far less confusing/infuriating response on their part than "It's intentional."

Hi,
I'm having the same issue. I found this thread when googling. I know my image has a low-res pixel art style but I had resized it up to 1500x1500 before uploading. When right-clicking and saving any resulting profile image from this view it is apparent that ebay resizes them to a 64x64 jpeg.
My reason for posting is that I have noticed some users have managed to fill the circle. Here are some examples...
These avatars are stored at 140x140 resolution.
I wondered if there was a workaround so I tried uploading a jpg specifically sized at 140x140, in the hope that a faulty auto-resize/compression doesn't kick in. I have also tried just stealing one of the above images to test-upload to my profile, but ebay always resizes them to 64x64.
I can only imagine that ebay inexplicably reduced the stored resolution of avatars to 64x64 (on a site that allows 24 1600x1600 photos per item 🙃) but didn't consider the effect that would have on page layouts. Perhaps the users above uploaded these 140x140 avatar images before eBay made this change to the upload compression settings. Just guessing. 🤷
Whatever the reason it's definitely a bug. It may be a small thing but it does look naff. If it ever does get fixed I think we'd only discover the change after updating our avatars as the error appears to happen at point of upload, not at point of display.

I attempted to edit, but too late. I should have said "reduced the stored resolution of ITEM PAGE avatars to 64x64" as ebay appears to generate and store a few versions at a different size/quality for different display purposes. I'm only guessing it works this way as I can't think how else some users would have avoided this issue.
