How can I get my shopping cart to function as it has previously?  Has eBay reduced the number of items allowed in shopping carts?

My shopping cart will not accept new items even though I’ve already deleted over half of items in it

Hi to all having issues adding items to cart. Called customer service today (Friday, March 15). I was having the same issue as I wanted to purchase multiple items from the same seller. I had nine items in my cart (all the same) and 100 items saved for later.

Customer service had me delete some items from my saved for later list. I was then able to add additional items to my cart. Apparently something has changed with the cart. You now can only have 100 items between your cart and your saved for later items.

Give it a try...maybe it will work for you!

How can I get my shopping cart to function as it has previously? Has eBay reduced the number of items allowed in shopping carts?

I have noticed several posts recently by folks complaining that they were unable to add additional items to their carts. It's possible that eBay has changed something or that there was a glitch, but I just did a test and was able to add 51 items to my cart and then remove them without any problems.

That said, it's probably not a good idea to place items in your cart unless you intend on purchasing them fairly soon. The longer items stay in the cart, the more likely they are to get "stuck". And the more items there are in a single transaction, the more likely that a problem with one of the items will prevent the transaction from going through.

If you can, move the cart items you are not planning to buy to your "saved for later" list, which should be able to hold up to 100 items.

I just now moved every item in my shopping cart to my saved list and I still can’t add a new item to my shopping cart.

Is there an error message when you try to add an item to the cart? Also, check your purchase history to see if you have any unpaid items there, if there were items in your cart that you were committed to purchasing.

If you are trying to purchase an item, see if you can buy it directly from the item page without adding it to the cart first. If you are using the app, try using a browser (and vice versa).

The cart is mainly useful when buying multiple items from the same seller if you want to request an invoice, or when combining items to take advantage of a coupon or deal.

If this is not a temporary glitch, and there is a real problem with your cart, it seems likely that others are (or will be) experiencing similar issues, and this sounds like the sort of thing that eBay will try to get corrected right away. Keep an eye on the message boards for other suggestions of things to try.

Good luck!

I am also experiencing this issue and have been for at least 24 hours. I'm a UK user and have experienced the issue on two separate accounts both in the app, and on mobile and web browsers.  I'm afraid I can't offer anything by way of a solution, but adding my experience in support of the theory that there may currently be some kind of glitch?

Same problem for the last two days, which is very annoying, especially for multiple item purchases. Has anyone contacted ebay about this problem and got a reply from them? Please share if you know about a solution.

My shopping cart's been stuck in limbo since yesterday.. there was never anything in my cart.

First it say's put something in the cart because it's empty, then when I attempt to place something in the said cart a bold red font message alert states my cart is full and to remove items, then when I click on the cart icon to remove said items, it says the cart is empty. *sighs* I did message eBay, as well as others, as I can tell we aren't the only ones experiencing this issue.

I am having the same problem.  Things are also disappearing altogether if I try to move them from saved to the cart.  VERY frustrating!

Yep same here. I deleted 50 items and still won't let me add to cart with 45 items. Definitely a bug. (I am trying to add more items to the same seller). One more reason to dislike the shopping cart. I did try to report it but you never know if someone actually receives the notification. AND you can Save for Later I believe 100 or less items? My cart also shows a seller on vacation with a red notice saying orders may be delayed but they are not on Vacation now and have been back for 2 months..... again.... reported to Ebay but as usual no response. SO frustrating.

I feel your frustration and it is still going on today! This is ridiculous in this age of technology that Ebay cannot manage to at least give us a message letting us all know that they are aware and are working on it!

To all posting regarding this issue;  There are many new Technical Issues since early February, when eBay rolled out system updates.  I just recently joined the Community Boards to try to help get more visibility on these issues, which impact all of us (Customers and eBay).  As I'm writing this, many eBay customers have no access to eBay via the Homepage, a problem that started over a week ago.

Regarding those who post suggestions or a work-around, those are always appreciated, but often don't get the Technical Issue addressed or resolved.

To try to raise this concern (which impacts Sellers, Buyers, and eBay ..... via lost sales, purchases never made, and lost revenue for all), I've copied Alan, the Community Manager.  Alan is helping with the Homepage issue and I hope he can open a ticket to help resolve this problem.

I am a UK user and have also been unable to add anything to my basket for the last 2 days even though I have cleared it.
Hope ebay resolves this soon !!

Thank you, Greg 5000.  I tried various means to let somebody know about this on ebay but there is no place to report a problem (except a general message which receives no response).  You are right about losing income.  I am organizing a large project and if you notice my history, it is apparent that I have spent a great deal at ebay.  However, since I can't put anything into the cart, it stops my spending. Sure, I realize I can buy something separately.  But when I can't add to the cart,  I can't join a purchase to previously organized groups of products from a particular store which will allow me to save a lot of money on postage if I can combine them.  This stops my spending flat.  Thanks for looking into this and for monitoring the board for these kinds of issues.
