Item Search has went to crap!

What has happened to  the ebay search? It used to work good, I can search for something and now get results for everything but what I typed in, example, searching for a carb for  a small engine, enter " carburetor for RH265 Kohler" and  get all CH, SH models  with the RH265. This is one reason alot people end up buying wrong item because search is so vague.

If you are searching using the "Best Match" sort order, try another sort order. Lately "Best Match" has been returning more results compared to other searches.

If that is not the issue, you can force eBay to return only exact, literal matches you your search terms by putting one of your keywords in quotes when searching.

Keep in mind that eBay considers not only keywords in titles, but also keywords in the item-specifics when determining if a result matches your search.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=carburetor+RH265+Kohler&_sacat=0&_sop=10

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=carburetor+%22RH265%22+Kohler&_sacat=0&_sop=10

You can report problems you encounter with searches directly from the search results page if you  are using a desktop browser by using the "Tell us what you think" link at the bottom of the results page.

Ebay search is really bad right now.

I have to specifically search in the category - non-sports cards -  to get more than 26 results, I select ALL ITEMS and worldwide for 26 results.

When I select non-sports cards as the category Then I get over 6K listings.  BUT, when I select "lowest first" it gives me 134 listings.  When I search BEST MATCH or HIGHEST FIRST it will then give me all 6K listings.

Not good and annoying.

The "Price plus shipping: lowest first" sort order provides filtered results -- often drastically filtered. And the option to "see more results" may not always be shown as it should. The filtering may vary depending on the keywords used.

If you encounter a drastically filtered result for a keyword search using a desktop browser, you should be able to use the "Feedback" link in the lower right corner of the search results to provide feedback on your search to eBay developers. The more users provide info, the more likely something is to be done about the over-filtration problem.

You can avoid that problem entirely by using a different sort order.

If you have few results, try sorting by "highest first", then starting at the end of the results, scroll up instead of down. This also avoids the problem of variation listings with low-cost variations appearing at the top of the lowest-first sort.

If you have a bookmarked or saved lowest-first search that you use a lot, you can avoid the filtration by adding the following to the end of the search URL, then saving the resulting search:

&_blrs=recall_filtering

If a search returns results that do not appear to contain your chosen keywords in the titles or item-specifics, try putting one of your search keywords in quotes.

Using quotes around one of your search keywords forces eBay to avoid any keyword substitutions or corrections and search for literal matches only.

The tech companies are all using the same google based Advanced Indexing (AI) programs designed to produce the results they need you to know.    Quotes may or may not work, especially with foreign words, its an example of being helpful whether you want it or not.   You can choose yes now or choose yes later, the choice is fully up to you.
