Is EBAY triggering anyone else's anti virus programs?

HI all... I have been over at Norton's website trying to figure out what is triggering my anti-virus, and I am 80% sure it is the Ebay website.  Something about it seems to be causing a security issue, not all the time, but at least once a day if I keep the page open.

It doesn't do it with Firefox, but does with IE.  I know IE is an older browser, but it is like a comfy old sweater and I still use it for basic things, like Ebay.

Attached are screen shots showing the anti-virus alerts.

Has anyone else been having these warnings?

JD

@nells250

IE is being phased out so it is not receiving security updates.

I know that. But this started happening all of a sudden, which is why I was wondering if there was a known issue that just started.

No known issue I'm aware of.

There are enough IE users left that it would be posted here somewhere if it were an issue.

"All of a sudden" things like this are indicative of something changing - the website or an antivirus program/definitions update - and it's usually the update.

As with the frequent occurrences with Avast Antivirus, I suspect what you are seeing is a Norton false positive.

There were IE exploits similar to what you seem to point to in the screenshots above in the wild many years ago, but from what I can see, having DEP turned on in the OS mitigated many of them, and IE versions 8 and up were mostly immune.

I suspect Norton is filtering the incoming data stream, either false flagging on something it thinks is a heap spray attack, or it's borderline possible that some rogue ad on eBay actually contains a decade old IE attack (very unlikely).

Problem here is that you don't know where it is happening, so you need to do more experimenting. Does Norton throw up a warning or are you finding it when you go check Norton logs? A true test would be to flush cookies and cache in IE, only open eBay page(s), and use it and/orlet it sit for a day or whatever to see if Norton flags anything.

Same issue here using Chrome.  Started on Friday 11/16/18 and persists through Sunday 11/18/18.  Tried different computers and different browsers and keep getting the same warning.  Reddit has a huge thread about many people reporting the same.  Wonder what this is all about?  I have attached the warning from AVG below.

Your issue is probably not this thread's issue - the OP never came back to provide any info that might permit determination of what the problem was, but your issue is not a DEP alert, and is almost certainly a false positive detection by Avast (again).

There are at least two other threads on this in this forum where I answered.
(in short, I'm getting tired of repeating myself and then still seeing "but when is eBay going to fix it?")

Buyers who sign on and get this message are really going to want to stay on the website...  /sarcasm
