FWIW, I've found that until the package gets another scan, PAST THE ACCEPTANCE SCAN, it's NOT considered "handled" despite whatever eBay claims. The initial acceptance scan indicates "Shipment Received, Package Acceptance Pending" and that date/time matches the paper receipt I was given. The next scan indicates "Accepted at USPS Origin Facility" which appears to be the acceptance scan eBay is actually using, and that's usually several hours later, which can be the next calendar day.
I had two packages that USPS "misplaced" (the word used by the USPS assistant manager) on the days I tendered them. They were on SCAN forms along with other packages. One appears to have been permanently "misplaced" and the other was shipped out of the station the next day. Both packages were "handled" within allowed time, yet both are now "defects."
