Nothing seems to be working correctly at eBay. The Community Boards Notification Feed is also not working and replies to posts are not being seen on the bell or the feed.
Just take a look at the many, many technical issue being reported in the past week. Maybe eBay staff are on summer vacation? Or ..... just another day in the life of eBay?

I'm just curious how eBay's message system messes up your auctions? Buyers will get a notice on the item listing or an email from eBay if they win, and then they can pay. Sorry--can help me understand how the message system fits it?
I think the OP isn't being notified when a sale is made, which seems to be an important thing.
Right now the Notification Feed at Community Boards isn't working for replies to posts, so if you reply to me I won't know, unless I come back to this thread to check later.

So. @greg5000, as a seller, don't you keep a schedule of when your auctions end? Why would you need a message for that?
I don't use the notification feed to alert me when people reply to my posts. I find that kind of thing irritating to the nth degree. I'm really not that interested in whether people reply.

I don't sell here and would never try to now, as there are way too many issues on this site. If I did sell, I would want to be messaged when an item sold and I think that's the concern of the OP and the 2nd post.
With GTC the listing never ends, so not sure how you keep a schedule of that?

A couple of things.....Ebay could very well have sent the message and it got "lost" in space or it ended up in the spam file.......no way to tell what went wrong......... Certainly, there have been problems from ebay (or paypal)......messages delayed by hours or days, but then the board light up.......and I don't see that happening right now. There have also been problems with specific servers....
Secondly, depending on messages to run a business on is asking for trouble, because of the above........ Sellers ALWAYS need to check ON ebay at least once a day for info..........that has been preached here since Ebay started.

GTC's are not stopped from running.......but they do have an end time which can be shown plainly on the active listing page. They are automatically renewed on that date.

As a kid I used to Love the TV series "Lost in Space." On an ecommerce platform, where business transactions impact sales and required actions ..... not so much.
As I write this, the Notification Feed is still not working correctly and only some alerts (very few) are seen on the bell or the history. The rest are lost in space and this has been going on for a while. I'll be sending Doug some screenshots over the weekend at his request. Your reply to my post didn't trigger an alert or show in my history. It's just a continuation of the same theme here; nothing seems to work correctly, consistently, or sometimes at all ..... for days, weeks, or months.
Regarding GTC listings, if they are automatically relisting (which I assume is seamless, except for the fee that might be generated), then they are not ending (unless ended by the Seller).

If you reread the original post, the OP was concerned about an auction--not a GTC listing. Auctions have a definite ending time/date, so a seller could note that in whatever tool s/he chooses. That's how you keep a schedule of that.

I didn't need to reread the post, as I knew he was talking about an auction. I also mentioned GTC in my post as a separate concern for messaging not working. If you go back to what I wrote you'll see I started a new paragraph for GTC.
BTW ... I didn't receive a Notification that you replied to my post, so the Notification Feed still isn't working. Just another day of things not working here.

You don't sell here, you don't buy here anymore--all you do is post on the message boards? I kinda don't get that, but to each his own!
I imagine the notification issue would be a concern for you. As I stated, I don't use it.

That's the trend here at eBay now. All the really good Sellers and Buyers have stopped Selling and Buying and are watching on the sidelines.
Just wondering, if you don't use the Notification function, how do you know when I post? You seem to reply very quickly.

Kind of insulting to all the Sellers and Buyers who are still selling and buying here, don't you think? If you have a source for that statement, I think most of would be interested in seeing it. If you check the "I'm leaving, going to leave, etc" rhetoric posts, I think you will find that most are still here. What those outside these boards do, no one knows.
Just wondering, if you don't use the Notification function, how do you know when I post? You seem to reply very quickly.
You perhaps have seen that you are the only one complaining about the lack of board notifications........at least from the posts I've seen....... that's because most regulars on these boards know that when a new post has been posted to a thread we've read, the subject line fonts go to dark from light. Since we are interested in the subject, as opposed a response to what "we" have posted, we click on the thread to read the new post...... so we run into your posts. I doubt anyone is "trying" to find them, I know I'm not.
Just one other point........ it's easy to be a "Monday morning quarterback" and to tell others what and how to do things with no skin in the game and no direct knowledge of playing the game. Some of your comments certainly have validity........but some of your solutions/demands that ebay "change" what they are doing according to what you think they should do, just doesn't work, at least on a short term basis. You extrapolate your wants/needs into generalities that you think apply to everyone.....while ebay has to look at the site as a whole, such as the GTC thing. It may be that they are wrong.......but they have the site knowledge that we, as individuals don't have. To be successful on ebay, whatever your personal definition of success is, means having to adapt to the changes Ebay makes...........
just my thoughts
