Ebay Virus redirect, Why isn't Ebay doing anything about i?

Hi all,

I am on iMac using Safari. For a few months now, each time I go on Ebay, when I am looking at objects and products, when I click on something on the item page such as choosing a size or model, as soon as I click I get taken to scammy virus popup scam **bleep** pages.

Seen a previous thread about this where many people said the same and were complaining about the issue, Ebay never responded and the thread was closed for some odd reason.

I have ran anti virus and malware software on my machine, and all is clean.

So, I was wondering why does a website like Ebay that makes millions, and has I.T specialists at hand working for them, isn't doing a thing about this issue? Quite an intrigue.

So Ebay, maybe you could respond to this message and tell me why this keeps happening as it is getting tiring.

If any other Ebayers out there had the same problem, do you know how to fix this issue?

All the best,

Sam

This dosn't sound like a ebay problem. It sounds like a browser problem. Follow above like to possibly fix the problem.

You are experiencing a malicious redirect. This is likely the result of running into an ad somewhere that produces a popup, which when closed (by clicking on it) affects your particular browser. Later, when you navigate to certain major sites (yahoo and eBay are common targets, but not the only ones) the address triggers either a redirect to another site or else a popup with some scammy offer of an Amazon gift certificate or other prize.

The precise solution depends on the nature of the redirect but generally involves resetting your browser to clear the history and cache, enabling a popup blocker -- and enabling an ad blocker if at all possible to prevent it from happening again.

Try googling "safari malicious redirect" along with a few words from the heading of the popup itself and possibly your device type for more specific instructions.

Here is a recent malwarebytes thread about malicious Safari redirects:

https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/250715-new-browser-hijack-in-safari/

Temporarily using another browser to go to eBay or Yahoo is a potential workaround until you solve the underlying problem with Safari.

Hi @eburtonlab , awesome response, many thanks for having taken the time out to help me out, really appreciate that.

Will do exactly the things that you mention and will come back shortly to let you know if it carries on.

I always thought Apple devices were pretty much immune to Viruses and and malware and pop up ads, I used to own windows machines up until 2009, then I turned to Mac (and never looked back) and in 10 years of having macs this is the first time I am getting such pop ups, I never go to unsafe websites, I always update the software when Apple sends the update alerts, so that is why I thought the problem was coming from Ebay because this popup business only happens from Ebay and no other websites visited.

Unfortunately, more major sites are offering up ads from third party ad-sharing outfits, so even sticking to well-known web sites is no guarantee that you will not run into some sort of malicious advertisement at some point. And the way ads are targeted, if you run into it once, it is likely that it will be served to you again.

Good luck to you!
