The app ALWAYS has difficulties. Try on a computer.

What version number of the app are you using? There are some issues that can prevent you from getting or even seeing the latest version, and older versions can often be problematic.
Are you able to use a mobile browser to reach ebay.com?

Hey there Android app version is 6.172.0.2.
I am able to use a laptop (or my phone) with chrome or Firefox and login fine.

That certainly appears to be the latest Android version of the eBay app -- that is the version I have as well.
It might be worth trying to uninstall the eBay app, restart your phone, then install the latest version of the app again. The restart in between should ensure a clean install, in case the issue was with a previous update not installing cleanly.

Just tried to uninstall, reboot and reinstall. Same error message. 'Technical difficulties. Please try again later'

You should be able to report app issues to eBay by shaking your phone while the app is active, even if you are not currently signed in, I believe.

I also can't sign into the latest version of the ebay app on Android anymore. I get the security message saying I'm a bot and using a web browser. Both I can assure you are impossible.
Tried uninstalling, clearing cache, restarting. Completely no way around this.

The problem is likely caused when the app tries to open a browser window, and your device's default browser is not recognized by eBay. The app may have to open a browser window to get you to check a box in order to proceed.
Try installing a new browser such as Firefox or Chrome, then set that browser as your device's default browser. Then sign in to eBay.
Once you have successfully completed signing in, you should be able to change your default browser again -- though if the browser is obscure enough or the setting changes, you may run into this issue again.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately setting different browsers as the default (I tried switching to Chrome, and my usual default is Firefox) doesn't change anything. They are both the latest versions too.
I'm starting to think it must be some kind of IP block or deep cache lockout. My wifi has been spotty lately with connection drops. I think the Ebay app has lost its mind as a result.

The message you see indicates that whichever browser is set as your device's default (not necessarily the same as the browser you are choosing to use) is not handling JavaScript in a way that eBay recognizes.

Well ok, but I still can't understand why the app logged me out in the first place, since that won't be related to javascript.
I can confirm I've managed to get in, finally. Here's what I needed to do for anyone in the same situation:
My default browser is Firefox. I updated to the latest version, but that didn't work. In the fact I tried everything from deleting and reinstalling all apps and clearing cache on all apps, and restarting the phone. No change.
I switched to Chrome as my default browser, but that didn't work either. However, when I updated Chrome to the latest version, I was able to log in.
