Can't search within the EU

I'm looking for some spare parts for my laptop and it's impossible to search for articles being sold within the EU. I've tried going on ebay.ie, ebay.it, ebay.de as well as ebay.fr.

I go to the advanced search. On ebay.ie, I click "European Union" under the tab "Item Location" and despite my filter, the search results show articles being sold from China and the United States. On ebay.it I click "Unione Europea" under "Provenienza", and the results return articles sold from "Stati Uniti". If I change to "Europea Continentale", it instead shows me results being sold from "Cina". On ebay.de, I click "Europäische Union" or "Kontinentaleuropa" under the tab "Artikelstandort" and it shows me results from "Vereinigte Staaten von Amerika" or "China", respectively. You get the point.

If I change it to search for a specific country, like choosing "Litauen" in the dropdown menu next to "Standort" on ebay.de however, it actually shows me articles being sold from Lithuania. For you non German speakers, it's the equivalent of going to ebay.ie and choosing "Lithuania" in the dropdown menu next to "Location" under the tab "Item location".

I'm looking for small spare parts for my laptop and my country applies heavy tariffs to goods imported from outside the EU. I don't want to order anything from the US or China. I want to order from Germany, Italy, Finland, the Netherlands, Lithuania, or any other country in the European Union. The option to search for articles sold within the EU is there, why isn't it working? I've had this problem for years.

Re: Can't search within the EU

I have heard of users in Europe having this problem, though EU searches seem to be working for me in the US when using an EU site to search.

You may want to report this to eBay on the site(s) you are actually searching on, since it appears that this problem may not be replicated in the US.

Re: Can't search within the EU

It can be replicated on ebay.com, at least for me. If I search for an article and press "US Only" under "Item Location", the first three results after the sponsored articles are from Lithuania, Poland and the United Kingdom. The "Item Location" search just doesn't work, and it's across all sites.

What search are you doing? Sponsored listings do not sort the way other non-sponsored listings do and they may not be treated the same as regular organic listings. But if you think sponsored listings are appearing in a search where the listing does not actually qualify, you should report that directly to eBay using the "Tell us what you think" link on the search results page.

But I believe the original poster's issue regards not being able to limit searches to the EU at all, not just having sponsored listings appear in the otherwise correct results. In other words I do not think the two issues are the same, and yours is probably worthy of its own thread.

Re: Can't search within the EU

I am the original poster. My point was that I experience the same error on ebay.com as I do on ebay.de, ebay.nl, ebay.fr, ebay.es, ebay.it and ebay.ie.

If I go to ebay.com and use the "Advanced search" to limit my results to articles for sale within the "US Only", the first three articles that pop up AFTER the sponsored results are from Lithuania, Poland and the UK. The sponsored articles were all located in Germany, and I of course realise that sponsored articles aren't going to behave in the same way as regular ones. The first non sponsored articles to pop up are not items or sellers located within the US, even if I press "US Only" under "Item Location".

That's why I posted here, because it's not a problem with each regional site. It's a problem all over every single ebay site I've used said filter on.

Apologies -- I missed that entirely.

The issue is directly related to your actual location. Users in the US apparently are not seeing the same issue when searching and using the Item location filter.

You most likely will need to get in touch with someone at eBay in your part of the world that can replicate the issue in order to address it.
