Can't remove items from markdown sale

I go to edit markdown sale click remove items shows blank zero items there are 7,000 items listed live for this sale. I tried to move some of the items from this sale to a new sale with a higher markdown site allows be to sellect some items but these items never populate or go live under the new sale

If your sale has been live for more than 24 hours, the best (easiest/cleanest) option is to end the sale and start multiple new sales based on the discount amount.

You can remove items from a sale, but not the way we used to be able to do it. In the past it would take the item out of the sale. Now the system leaves the item tied to that markdown, but it removes the discount from that listing. So you can't add that item to a new sale until the current one ends.
