Hello
I am trying to make a bug report. I made a 'best offer' offer, specifying an offer value and specifying 'free postage'. I received the automated confirmation email from eBay which states that my offer had specified a price and had specified free postage. The seller accepted the offer. Payment was then automatically taken for both the offer price and, incorrectly, for an additional postage charge. I collected the item in person, as intended.
This is an example of money for delivery being taken automatically, by mistake, and without authorisation.
I can provide further details on request.
Best Regards
Chris

It sounds like you're trying to use offers in a way eBay does not allow @chrisreynish . The offer applies to the item price only. Once an offer is made, the listing is locked to revisions so the seller could not change shipping even if they wanted to. If you want "free" shipping, reduce your offer amount by the total ship cost and see if the seller will accept.

The key point is this: ebay sent me automated emails confirming the offer and confirming free postage. I can provide the emails on request.

I'm not clear - was the listing advertising free postage or did you ask for free postage in the comments box on the offer?
FYI this is the US Community forum. eBay Community is a public forum made up of fellow buyers and sellers; not eBay customer service. In other words, don't provide emails unless you redact your personal info.

I am using ebay in the UK so I may be using the wrong forum.
I don't know whether the seller included 'free postage' amongst their different delivery options but the bug I am reporting is that:-
1) I tried to make a 'best offer' with no delivery charge;
2) In response to my offer, ebay sent me an automated confirmation email, which states 'free postage' in its automatically populated delivery field; and
3) A delivery charge was applied.

It's hard to advise when you haven't provided the listing info.
Regardless, you may wish to present your issue on the UK forum.
Shipping options can vary between US and UK sites, so it's generally better to post on your "home" forum to make sure you're getting the best advice.

Thanks. I am just trying to report the problem to be helpful rather than to seek advice. Is the UK forum a better place to do that? Or is there a more appropriate route?

I have just checked the original listing. It is item number '297345528475'. I can see that 'free collection' is among the options that the seller was offering and I can see from eBay's automated emails that that is what I selected, as intended. It just charged me for delivery automatically anyway.

There's a ? icon on the lower right of the item page. Click on that to file a tech report.
But I still suggest posting on the UK community as you can find out if it's a known tech issue, possibly user error, ways to avoid in future, etc.

Thank you.

I have filed a technical report and re-posted, with a screenshot of the automated confirmation email, in the UK forum.
