I shipped an item on November 13, 2020 using USPS economy shipping and apparently made A Big Mistake. I used the eBay mail label and shipped it the same day at my local post office. I watched the tracking and it made it to Iowa then sent back to my town then reshipped out and came back 4 times. I filed a missing mail complaint with USPS they claimed problem resolved but my package has not reached the purchaser's place yet as of December 2,2020. This is the last notice I received from USPS.

Dear Douglas Garner,

Thank you for taking the time to notify us of your experience. Per our last correspondence, I had notified you, that your package had a barcode readability issues. I have also notified you, that your package tracking number 9461 2082 0549 6867 5290 14 had arrived to FINDLAY, OH 04540 on 11-27-20. Additionally, I advised you, your package has been captured and is currently being redirected to our Northglenn CO., Station 80233/41 (Thornton CO 80241).

Please note; In order to stop the looping issue your barcode was crossed out. your package will not show any updates with the barcoding that was originally placed on the package. Please allow more time to complete processing. The package will need to be sent back through our transportation networks and manual processing. We encourage your to stay in contact with your customer to validate receipt of delivery. I apologize for the frustration this may have caused you. I am confident that your package will arrive to it destination with in a few days and will be delivered.

Please accept our sincerest apology for any trouble this may have caused you. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you again in the future.

I think that message is a long way of saying: Your label got messed up so we're handling it the old-fashioned way manually; please be patient.

Barcode readability issues can happen due to printing gaps or smears, wrinkles in tape that covers the barcode, lack of tape to protect the barcode from dampness that makes the ink smear, or rips in the label or other damage. When that happens, the package has to be handled by personnel without the benefit of scanners or other automatic processing. Apparently they don't intend to type in the tracking number along the way, though the carrier should enter it in lieu of the actual delivery scan.

Im not sure what method you used but I will tell you from my own experience never ever ever ever send anything USPS Parcel select. I almost had to give a customer a 100 refund because it took 35 days for the package to go 5 states away. I never have a issue with Priority Mail and use it or fedex since then.

In the future, it might help to tape carefully over the entire label with high-quality tape. Even if you use stick-on labels, at least tape over the key information to protect it.

And unless your item is on the USPS list of things that MUST travel by ground, it would have been better to ship this item via Priority Mail (which would cost only 10 cents more than Parcel Select, and includes insurance) or as a First Class package (up to 15.99 ounces).
