Just got off the phone after getting a email from ebay that my payments are on hold for 5 days while they review my account. After speaking to a number of folks I finally was able to speak to someone in the states that works in the accounts department and found out that is the new ebay policy and came with managed payments. Once a year sellers are going to have their accounts reviewed and pay out held, until ebay completes a review that may take up to 5 days. During that time you can list, buy and sell just not get payments. I quote"there are no triggers, or nothing wrong with your account, this is just the new standard to safe guard our buyers and sellers on ebay).
So in order to meet our shipping requirements we have to "loan" Ebay cash while we pay employees to pack and ship out of pocket until they complete what is going to be a regular occurance once a year.
Well one thing that they got right is that its a new Ebay...............

Would LOVE to see an announcement about this review.

Why do you think there should have been an announcement on Performance Reviews? Or are you talking about some other kind of review?

What do you mean who is THEY? Obviously THEY is the person who’s comment I was trying to explain to you since you didn’t seem to be understanding their concern. I was literally just trying to help you understand what their concerns were… You were the one who didn't seem to understand what the commenter you were last speaking to was talking about and what their concerns were, whether warranted to or not.

The other poster was explaining because their money is on hold they can not pay their bill for insurance which was due. So I understand what they were saying. When Ebay holds money on sellers it can cause significant financial harm to a seller especially if they have some bills due for payment.

I am sure this is nothing short of extortion, hold funds that belong to you while you comply to ebay demands

There aren't always "demands" by Ebay when funds are held. On a periodic performance review the seller does not have to submit anything or do anything. Ebay just does their thing and holds your money from 3-5 days.
When Ebay holds funds because they need something, it is always related to confirming your Identification, SSN / Tax ID or your banking information. All of which is information Ebay has to have. They are required by LAW to verify your ID and have your SSN/Tax ID.

their is no legal reason for Ebay to hold funds while they conduct a review that is not related to other issues. As I was told there is nothing wrong with my account its part of there new system that came along with managed payments. They place a hold while your account is reviewed, during that time please sell/list away you just won't get any money for the items you sold until we complete the review. Their is no timeline to when it may be done, just that its usually done in 5 business days.
If you go back and read the legal agreement that we agreed to about managed payments, they can hold your funds for as long as they want depending on their mood. Yes yes thats not right, I think any seller here agrees with that. But they really aren't breaking any laws or reg from the Feds until the 6 month mark.
Is it any wonder that when Ebay releases something like their last update that included the poorly worded part on promoted listings that longtime sellers got a bit worried about what they were missing?

I can't say that I'm particularly fond of Ebay holding funds during the Performance Review process either. But is it illegal? NO. It is just how Ebay does things. Paypal did it too, however with PP, they held funds on one transaction for up to 48 hours and then it was complete.
A Performance Review is likely to show that for most sellers there is nothing wrong with their account and that is a very good thing. It is part of the Security measures Ebay takes to keep the site as safe as possible. And yes of course it came with Managed Payments, before that Ebay didn't handle the money so there was no need for these types of security checks.
The time limit is normally 3-5 days on a Performance Review, if it is taking longer than that, there is cause for concern and you should talk directly with Ebay to see if you can find out what is going on. But 3-5 days is what most will experience.
"they can hold your funds for as long as they want depending on their mood" That is not how that reads. I know you are upset with having funds on hold, I think that is a very reasonable feeling myself.

I'm not sure anyone thinks this is helpful. It leaves a number of questions unanswered as to just how long they can hold funds doing on of these. I spent hours and hours pulling thru agreedments for sselling and the fact is Ebay can do lots of things and we always think that is never going to happen. When manged payments came out all we heard from the cheer leaders was how great this is and Ebay would never do anything like this. Maybe a single transaction might be checked and funds held (like a number of different processors) but placiing a hold on everything for what might be 3 to 5 days OR LONGER simply to "check" ones account leaves its sellers to cover (or float the platform a loan) until they decide to release it.
We survived because we planned for things like this, and started to change our business model so we weren't dependent on ebay as our only money stream.
Spin it any way you want, as a seller we are at the mercy of ebay everyday.

I don't know how much clearer I can be or Ebay for that matter. It is 3-5 days.
"When manged payments came out all we heard from the cheer leaders was how great..." Then clearly you were not looking in the Community in the Payment forum or the Seller forum as there were 100's and 100's of threads complaining or asking about MP. And they were for almost a year and a half which was about how long it took Ebay to onboard ALL sellers between July of 2020 and December 31st, 2021.
I get that you are upset, but because you are upset doesn't change the history of the subject on the forums.

What is their number??? I can't reach them at all to ask why they're holding payments owed to me after I paid the shipping costs and the seller paid for the item. The funds are "on hold" and can't find ANY number to call them. Thank you for any help!

This is a zombie thread people keep dredging up.
Your payments are on hold because you are new at selling and eBay will hold your payments up to 30 days until you have $250 in sales, have 25 feedbacks for selling, and it's been 90 days since your first sale.
