Bid on an item, won and ebay used auto payment witout me doing anything! I like control over paying for an item won NOT ebay. I usederstand BEST OFFER uses auto payment, but not a regular auction listing?
Please advise not happy to give ebay control over payment for a regular auction style.

If the seller requires a payment method in advance to place a bid, you may have to provide a credit or debit card that can handle a reversible payment hold in order to bid. When you win, if you do not specify a new payment method within a certain amount of time of the auction's end -- often an hour -- your payment method is automatically charged, so be sure to pick the correct payment method when you submit your bid.

That's an option the seller sets, nothing the buyer can get rid of.

Sellers can control whether or not a payment method is required for both offers AND auctions.
Buyers have no option to get rid of that requirement, the only control over that is to find a seller that doesn’t require a method of payment up front for bidding and offers.

Okay so that is part of the immediate payment selection a seller makes?
I am the buyer in this case so I was auto charged because of the sellers select of payment.
This is a first for me as both a seller/buyer. Normally, I pay via paypal not using my CC.

No, it’s not part of immediate payment requirement
It is a buyer requirement a seller uses separate from immediate payment. Since I don’t have offers on my listings or have auctions I don’t have that requirement checked.

Can you not go into your PayPal wallet and select something as your 'Preferred method of paying while shopping online'?

PayPal may treat eBay differently than other retailers, though. I have seen some users complaining that even though they have a default payment method set in PayPal, another payment method is chosen automatically for eBay bids & offers. Possibly the issue is that some payment methods may not work for offers and auctions; only payment methods that support a reversible payment hold may work. Or possibly because PayPal treats eBay like a "subscription" service.
It may be easier to have a credit or debit card on file with eBay specifically for those bids or offers.

As has been posted, it is a setting (buyer requirement) that ebay added (without notice) to, as far as I have read, "all" sellers accounts.
Some sellers have become aware of it, and unchecked the boxes, but some leave it checked. Some still do not know that ebay did that to their account.
Not sure if all "buyers" have been "phased into" the "preauthorize payment" jailcell.
