Does anyone know if the sales tax that the buyer pays is part of the fee we pay? Ex: buyer pays $100 for an item 10 for shipping and sales tax of 10. Does all this add up to $120 that ebay charges 12.555% +$.30 for that little extra they get. I was looking at some of my fees and it looks that way. Is this legal?

The total of everything

Yes, FVF's are calculated on total buyer pays so Item + Shipping + Tax
I would look at the small fee charged on the tax being less it would cost me to get an accountant to organise it for me for all the different states.

Exactly correct. You've got it down pat.
Before you go off halfcocked, know that they could easily just charge you 15% of the sale. Store leases cost money. Selling on the internet is STILL a bargain.

And when you get your 1099, what is your total gross income? You choose either a standard deduction or itemized deductions.

Might be legal but really is a rip off. I think Amazon does the same. Shameless.

You are exactly correct. And, of course, it's legal. Wouldn't you imagine that eBay has an attorney or two on staff that checks out the legality of every move they make?
