eBay's Payment Holding Pattern is Disturbing

As I've read in a number of threads, eBay frequently holds your money hostage as they force you to provide them with more and more information.  I completely understand holding money on small sellers until something is delivered but requiring a bank account is ridiculous.

There are numerous electronic payments options, PayPal being one of them, for eBay to settle up with sellers.  I don't feel comfortable giving my routing number, account number and social to a company that has had multiple data breaches.  So, because I don't want to give them my bank details they won't pay me, saying their EULA states that this is the only way to get paid (despite state and federal laws defining the fact they are holding my property).

Honestly, I'm 100% ok with a check, just a good old paper check is perfectly fine with me, I don't need paid instantly.  I prefer it to be PayPal as it's been since nearly the beginning, but a check is preferable to an ACH.  It's not that I have anything against ACH, I use it all the time with other financial institutions, but eBay is not a financial institution and, in my mind, has no right to have my bank details to just add to the information that a hacker can access.  I choose to not participate in ACH, that doesn't mean that eBay shouldn't pay me.

I'm not mad about PayPal being out of the picture (or Venmo or any number of other established payment methods), but there should be more than one option to be paid without having eBay hold your funds hostage because the only option they allow is one that you are not comfortable sharing.

For what it's worth, if you don't sign up for Managed Payments... eventually your funds will be sent to your state's Unclaimed Property Dept. Keep an eye out for your name on the publicly posted lists. You can go to your state's Administration Office with an ID and claim them from there.

Understand your hesitancy, but I've found Managed Payments to be secure. I opted in in August, 2018. Good luck.

As 'ridiculous' as it sounds, if you dont supply your banking info and ss#, you will never get paid, by check, or otherwise. Your funds will eventually take about a year to be transferred to your states unclaimed funds dept. You can check for them then, good luck.

Plus, I see you are a very infrequent seller, and your funds can be held up to thirty days.

... you do realize that your routing number and account number are on every single check you write, right? So if you like using checks for things, you're already handing that info out all over the place.

I just don't understand the resistance to creating an account for an entity to send you money...

You gave similar information to setup Paypal...and if you did not give them the info when you initially created the account, you CERTAINLY will have to update it this year (even if PP was still your recipient of funds) due to the new $600.00 threshold.

There are numerous online options to create checking accounts that you can setup in minutes to accept your payments from these online selling platforms without exposing your current precious bank account...

I am just dumbfounded.........

I don't  know how long it's  been since you've sold but eBay has been announcing for  2-3 years that sellers will have payouts managed by eBay via your checking account or Payoneer, depending upon what country you're  in.

If you don't give eBay your checking account info and the last 4 digits of your SSN you can kiss your money good-bye for at least 6 months.  To retrieve your payout you'll have to ontact unclaimed funds in your state's treasury dept.
